PM Kisan 24th installment date: what's confirmed, the ₹4,000 claim, and how to check if you'll get ₹2,000
The Centre hasn't announced a date for the 24th PM-KISAN installment. The '20 October' date doing the rounds is a guess, and the '₹4,000' claim only applies to some farmers whose earlier payment got stuck. Here's what's official, how to check your status, and a checklist to see if you're on track.
TL;DRThe short version
- No official date yet. As of 12 Oct 2026, the Agriculture Ministry and pmkisan.gov.in have not announced the 24th installment. The 20 October date in viral posts is just four months after the 23rd installment (20 June 2026); Dainik Jagran and CNBC TV18 say it's unconfirmed.
- It's ₹2,000. PM-KISAN's official X account called a viral '₹4,000 installment' claim fake (Zee Business, 20 Aug). A farmer gets ₹4,000 only if a missed earlier installment is paid along with the new one, which the scheme's own FAQ allows once the problem is fixed.
- To get paid you need three things: land seeding, an Aadhaar-seeded bank account and e-KYC (PIB). Excluded families (income tax payers, government employees, ₹10,000+ pensioners, practising professionals and others) don't qualify.
- Check your payment, e-KYC and land-seeding status on the official portal (Know Your Status), then run our 7-question checklist: pmkisan.gov.inChecklist: kyuntrend.in/tools/pm-kisan-eligibility-checklist/. The installment date counts only when the Agriculture Ministry announces it.

The Ministry usually announces the date a few days before the Prime Minister releases an installment at a public event (Dainik Jagran). We'll update this story when it does.
When did the 23rd installment come?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the 23rd installment on 20 June 2026 from Tarakeswar in Hooghly, West Bengal. According to PIB, over ₹18,880 crore went to more than 9.44 crore farmers, including 2.18 crore women, by direct benefit transfer. The Ministry later told the Lok Sabha that ₹18,895.10 crore reached 9,44,34,650 beneficiaries (as on 16 July), with Uttar Pradesh the largest at 2.18 crore.
The 22nd installment came on 13 March 2026 from Guwahati. Since the scheme started in February 2019, more than ₹4.46 lakh crore has been paid out over 23 installments (PIB). The Union Budget 2026-27 set aside ₹60,000 crore for PM-KISAN.
The ₹4,000 claim, fact-checked
The ₹4,000 story has two versions, and only one has any basis.
- "The installment has been doubled to ₹4,000." False. When this went viral, PM-KISAN's official X account posted: "This claim is fake. No such official announcement has been made. Stay Alert!" (reported by Zee Business on 20 August 2026). Mint Hindi also reported the account flagging a video that claimed ₹4,000 had already been sent.
- "Some farmers will get ₹4,000." Possible, but only in one situation. If an eligible farmer didn't get the 23rd installment (for example because of a mismatch in records or pending e-KYC) and has since fixed it, the old ₹2,000 may be paid along with the new ₹2,000. This is what Mint Hindi (10 Oct), Saam TV (11 Oct) and Oneindia Hindi describe, and it matches Q35 of the scheme's FAQ: farmers who miss an installment "for any reason, except due to rejection for falling within the exclusion criteria" are "entitled to receive the benefits of all the due installments as and when the cause of delay is removed / resolved". It isn't automatic: it depends on why the payment stopped and whether it's approved.
In Maharashtra, there's a third source of confusion. The state's own Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi pays a separate ₹2,000 per installment (₹6,000 a year) on top of PM-KISAN, according to The Economic Times Marathi (9 Oct). If both arrive close together, a Maharashtra farmer could see ₹4,000 in total, but those are two schemes. No official date has been announced for Namo Shetkari's next installment either.
How to check your PM Kisan status
- Go to pmkisan.gov.in and open Know Your Status under Farmers Corner.
- Enter your registration number, then the OTP sent to your registered mobile. Lost the number? Use "Know your registration no." on the same page with your mobile or Aadhaar.
- The page shows your payment status, bank name, UTR number, payment mode and credit date for each installment, plus your e-KYC status by financial year.
- To see your village's list, use Beneficiary List (pick your state, district and village).
The portal also points farmers to the Kisan-eMitra chatbot, which PIB says answers payment and registration questions in 11 languages.
e-KYC: three ways to do it
e-KYC is mandatory for registered farmers (pmkisan.gov.in). PIB lists three modes:
- OTP-based: on the PM-KISAN portal or app, using the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile.
- Biometric (fingerprint): at a Common Service Centre (CSC) or State Seva Kendra. The portal now says biometric e-KYC is also available through the PM-KISAN mobile app and state authorised users.
- Face authentication: in the PM-KISAN app with the Aadhaar Face RD app. No OTP or fingerprint needed, and one farmer can help up to 100 others (PIB).
The status can take about 24 hours to update. If your mobile isn't linked to Aadhaar, PIB says the Department of Posts can link or update it through India Post Payments Bank.
Land seeding and the bank account
- Land seeding: your cultivable land must be in your own name and the details must be seeded on the PM-KISAN portal by your state. Tenant farmers and people farming land still in a parent's name aren't eligible, unless the land has passed to them by inheritance (FAQ Q17, Q18). If it shows No, contact your state's nodal officer or your tehsil or agriculture office with your land records.
- Aadhaar-seeded, DBT-enabled bank account: PIB says the money goes into Aadhaar-seeded bank accounts by DBT. Ask your bank to seed your Aadhaar and enable the account for DBT; the payments are routed through NPCI (FAQ Q34).
Why your installment might not come
- e-KYC not done or not yet showing.
- Land seeding "No" or land records not verified by the state.
- Bank account not Aadhaar-seeded or not DBT-enabled, or an account/IFSC mismatch.
- Name mismatch between Aadhaar and your PM-KISAN record (the portal lets you correct it).
- Withheld for verification: the portal says the Department has temporarily withheld payments in suspected cases, such as land acquired after 1 February 2019 or more than one family member getting the benefit (for example husband and wife), until physical verification is done. Inheritance after the cut-off is allowed (FAQ Q13).
- Excluded category: see the list below.
Who is not eligible
According to pmkisan.gov.in, these are excluded:
- All institutional landholders.
- Families where any member (husband, wife or minor children) is:
- a former or present holder of a constitutional post;
- a former or present Union or state minister, MP, MLA or MLC, mayor of a municipal corporation or chairperson of a district panchayat;
- a serving or retired employee of central or state government ministries and departments, central or state PSEs, attached offices, autonomous institutions, or a regular employee of a local body (Multi Tasking Staff, Class IV and Group D employees are not excluded);
- a retired pensioner getting ₹10,000 a month or more (same exception);
- someone who paid income tax in the last assessment year;
- a doctor, engineer, lawyer, chartered accountant or architect registered with a professional body and practising.
States are asked to recover money paid to ineligible people; PIB said ₹416 crore had been recovered as of 5 August 2025.
Helpline and complaints
- IVRS helpline: 155261 or 1800-11-5526 (toll-free), per PIB.
- Online: the Helpdesk query form on pmkisan.gov.in, where you can also track your query.
- District: families left out of the list can approach their District Level Grievance Redressal Monitoring Committee (FAQ Q22).
Never share an OTP with anyone who calls or messages about "releasing" your installment. Checking your status on the portal is free and needs only your own registered mobile.
Myth vs fact
01
Myth The 24th installment will come on 20 October.
Fact No date has been announced. 20 October is simply four months after the 23rd installment (20 June). Dainik Jagran (4 Oct) points out that the gap isn't always exactly four months; the Ministry usually announces the date a few days before release.
02
Myth This time every farmer gets ₹4,000.
Fact PM-KISAN's official X account called the ₹4,000 claim fake: 'No such official announcement has been made' (Zee Business, 20 Aug 2026). The installment is ₹2,000.
03
Myth If I missed the 23rd installment, that money is gone.
Fact Not necessarily. The scheme's FAQ (Q35) says eligible farmers get all due installments once the cause of delay is removed, unless they were rejected under the exclusion criteria. That's the only way some farmers could see ₹4,000 at once.
04
Myth Owning farmland is enough to get PM-KISAN.
Fact Your land records must be seeded on the portal, your bank account must be Aadhaar-seeded and e-KYC must be done (PIB). Families with an income tax payer, a government employee, a ₹10,000+ pensioner or a practising professional are excluded.
05
Myth In Maharashtra, ₹4,000 means PM-KISAN doubled.
Fact Maharashtra runs its own Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi, which pays a separate ₹2,000 per installment (₹6,000 a year) on top of PM-KISAN, per The Economic Times Marathi. No official date for its next installment has been announced either.
