JKSSB recruitment 2026: 2,863 MTS and Sanitation Worker posts, apply by 12 November, and graduates can't
JKSSB's Advertisement No. 09 of 2026 is open for 2,863 Class-IV (MTS) and Sanitation Worker posts until 11:59 PM on 12 November 2026. The form needs a live face capture, the age is counted on 1 January 2026, and the qualification has a ceiling as well as a floor: 10+2 is the most you can hold.
TL;DRThe short version
- Last date: Thursday 12 November 2026, 11:59 PM for both the form and the fee. JKSSB's Advertisement No. 09 of 2026 has 2,863 posts: Class-IV Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) and Sanitation Workers across the UT, divisional and district cadres, at pay level SL-1 (₹14,800–47,100). A 1 October corrigendum moved the window to 14 Oct–12 Nov, so ignore the old 3 November date.
- 10+2 is the maximum qualification. MTS needs Matric (minimum) to 10+2 (maximum); Sanitation Worker needs 8th pass to 10+2. A graduate isn't eligible. Age is counted on 1 January 2026: born between 1 Jan 1986 and 1 Jan 2008 for Open Merit (40), up to 43 for reserved categories, and you need a J&K domicile certificate.
- The written test isn't the whole score. It's 85, 80 or 75 out of 100 depending on the cadre. The rest is weightage: +10 for your home district, +5 for your home division, and +5 each for no family member in government service, for widows/divorced women/orphan girls, and for casual workers with 5+ years.
- Register, complete your OTR and apply under 'Active Advertisement' on JKSSB's portal: jkssb.nic.in · Apply for Various PostsThe login page loaded for us at about 12:50 PM IST on 20 Oct. The face capture needs a working camera and a browser that's allowed to use it.

Short answer: the JKSSB recruitment 2026 drive everyone is searching for is Advertisement No. 09 of 2026: 2,863 Class-IV (MTS) and Sanitation Worker posts across Jammu and Kashmir. Apply online at jkssb.nic.in until 11:59 PM on Thursday, 12 November 2026. You need a J&K domicile certificate, a qualification between Matric and 10+2 (8th pass to 10+2 for Sanitation Worker), and a date of birth no earlier than 1 January 1986 for Open Merit. The form takes a live face capture through your camera. The exam date and syllabus haven't been announced.
Check your eligibility and extra points
The checker runs in your browser and sends nothing anywhere. It applies the age, qualification, fee and weightage rules in JKSSB's 1 September advertisement and the post counts in Annexure-A. It doesn't calculate the ex-servicemen age rule, and the advertisement always comes first.
The qualification rule that rules people out
Most job ads set a minimum. This one sets a ceiling too. Quoting the advertisement: the qualification for Class-IV (MTS) is "Minimum Matric and Maximum 10+2", and for Sanitation Worker "Minimum 8th Pass and Maximum 10+2". It adds that anyone with a qualification "other than as prescribed, shall not be eligible" and will be rejected "at any stage". So if you've finished a BA, BSc or BCom, this one isn't for you, however tempting 2,863 government posts look. The rule comes from S.O. 184 of 2020 (Class-IV special recruitment rules) and S.O. 132 of 2022 (Sanitation Worker).
The flip side: if you left school after 8th or 9th, you can still apply, but only for Sanitation Worker items. By our count from Annexure-A that's 166 posts: 75 in the UT cadre, 50 in the Jammu division and 41 in the Kashmir division. None of the 768 district-cadre posts is a Sanitation Worker post.
Where the 2,863 posts are
| Cadre | Posts | What stands out |
|---|---|---|
| UT cadre | 105 | 73 Sanitation Worker posts in the Estates Department; 28 MTS in Transport |
| Jammu division | 1,093 | 939 MTS posts in Public Works (R&B) alone |
| Kashmir division | 897 | 481 MTS in Public Works (R&B), 199 in Floriculture, Gardens and Parks |
| 20 district cadres | 768 | Baramulla 75, Jammu 65, Anantnag 59, Srinagar 53 … Shopian 10, Ramban 9 |
| Total | 2,863 | OM 1,178 · SC 246 · ST-1 293 · ST-2 286 · OBC 221 · ALC/IB 115 · RBA 271 · EWS 253 |
Our read: about half the drive (1,420 posts) is one employer, the Public Works (R&B) Department, at the divisional level. If you're choosing between items, that's where the numbers are. Preferences matter too. JKSSB allots cadres and departments by merit-cum-preference, and it says preferences, once submitted, stay non-editable even if an edit window is opened later.
How the merit list is worked out
From Annexure-D, under S.O. 184 of 2020 and SRO 404 of 2018:
| Criterion | UT cadre | Divisional cadre | District cadre |
|---|---|---|---|
| Written test | 85 | 80 | 75 |
| Home division / home district (from your domicile certificate) | — | +5 | +10 |
| No family member in government service (incl. PSUs, boards) | +5 | +5 | +5 |
| Widows, divorced or judicially separated women, orphan girls | +5 | +5 | +5 |
| Casual worker for 5+ years (wage proof, countersigned) | +5 | +5 | +5 |
"Family" means only your spouse, brother, sister and parents. The no-government-job claim has to be verified by an SDM, Additional Commissioner or Additional Deputy Commissioner, and the widow/divorced/orphan-girl certificate comes from the Tehsildar. You only get the points if you produce the certificate at document verification. Start on these now, because they're the slowest papers to get.
Our read: in a district-cadre item, a local candidate with no family member in government service starts 15 points ahead of a candidate from another district whose parent works for the government, before a single question is answered. That's why your home district's items are usually your best bet, even when the bigger numbers are in the divisional cadre.
How to apply before 12 November
- Open JKSSB's application portal and click New User / Sign Up. You'll need a working email ID and mobile number for OTP verification.
- Log in with the username you get (not your email), then complete the One-Time Registration (OTR) form.
- Go to Active Advertisement → Apply. Enter your name, date of birth and parents' names exactly as on your Matric certificate.
- Pick your items and preferences for Class-IV (MTS) and Sanitation Worker separately. Only one application per item number is allowed.
- Do the live face capture: a well-lit room, no cap, mask or dark glasses, face centred and filling most of the frame. Use the latest Chrome, Edge or Firefox and allow camera access. Don't refresh during capture.
- Upload a clear signature of 10–20 KB (1.5 × 3.5 cm).
- Click Pay Now and pay ₹600 (or ₹500 for SC, ST-1, ST-2, EWS and PwBD) by net banking, card or UPI. Check that your dashboard shows the fee as "Submitted". An unpaid form counts as incomplete.
You don't send a printout to JKSSB. In-service candidates are the exception: they send the printout with the signed certificate through proper channels. Questions go to ssbjk-grievance@jk.gov.in or the helpdesks on 0191-2461335 (Jammu) and 0194-2435089 (Srinagar).
01
Myth More qualifications can only help.
Fact Not here. JKSSB's advertisement sets a maximum: 10+2 for both MTS and Sanitation Worker. It says a candidate whose qualification is 'other than as prescribed' isn't eligible and will be 'summarily rejected at any stage'. Graduates can't apply.
02
Myth The last date is 3 November.
Fact That was the original date. JKSSB's corrigendum of 1 October 2026 fixed fresh dates: 14 October to 12 November 2026, 11:59 PM, for both the form and the fee.
03
Myth I can upload a passport photo like other forms.
Fact No. The 9 October instructions say live face capture is mandatory, the form can't be submitted without it, and uploaded photographs or screenshots are not allowed for this advertisement.
04
Myth Selection is purely on the written test.
Fact The written test is 85 (UT cadre), 80 (divisional) or 75 (district) out of 100. Up to 25 points come from weightage under S.O. 184 of 2020, and you need certificates to claim them at document verification.
05
Myth I can change my cadre preferences later.
Fact JKSSB says cadre and department preferences 'shall remain non-editable' once submitted, even if an edit window is opened.
