Delhi Metro tomorrow: are the 45 closed stations reopening? Live status

Entry and exit gates at 45 Delhi Metro stations are shut until 6 PM IST today, 10 October. As of 2:54 PM IST, DMRC has not announced anything for Sunday. Here's the full list of stations, what DMRC actually said, and where to check before you travel.

TL;DRThe short version

  • Today: entry and exit are closed at 45 stations from 9 PM on 9 Oct to 6 PM on 10 Oct. Trains still run, and you can change lines at every one of these stations except New Delhi. This is according to DMRC's revised service update on X.
  • Tomorrow (Sunday 11 Oct): as of 2:54 PM IST, DMRC had posted no update about extending or lifting the closures. It said security agencies would review the situation and that updates would follow.
  • On 9 Oct the Supreme Court called the original 57-station shutdown order “overreaching” and said metro services can be regulated but not banned outright. DMRC then cut the list to 45.
  • Before you travel, check DMRC's official X account for the next service update: x.com/OfficialDMRCDMRC has been posting its service updates on X first. Its website, delhimetrorail.com, carries network and journey information.

How we got here: timeline

  • Thu 8 Oct: Delhi Police's Transport Range wrote to DMRC's managing director. According to the Supreme Court's order, these communications asked for reduced frequency and closed gates at 57 stations from 9 PM on 9 October.
  • Fri 9 Oct, afternoon: the Supreme Court said the notifications “appear to be overreaching” because they impose “a complete ban upon essential public transportation”. It recorded the Solicitor General's assurance that services would run in a “regulated manner”, and asked DMRC, the Railways and Delhi Traffic Police for a compliance report within four days.
  • Fri 9 Oct, about 9:56 PM: DMRC posted a revised update that cut the list to 45 stations and kept the window at 9 PM 9 Oct to 6 PM 10 Oct.
  • Sat 10 Oct: a contempt petition was filed in the Supreme Court alleging that the closures went against the court's order, Bar & Bench and LiveLaw report. India Today reports that over 250 trains to New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin, scheduled between 4 AM and 2 PM, were cancelled.
  • Sat 10 Oct, 6 PM: the scheduled end of the station closures, according to DMRC.

Planning a Sunday trip?

  1. Check @OfficialDMRC after 6 PM today. That's where DMRC has posted every update on these closures so far.
  2. Change lines at a station that isn't on the list if you can. If you have to change at one of these stations, the interchange stays open everywhere except New Delhi.
  3. Avoid central Delhi by road if you can. Delhi Traffic Police diversions around Jantar Mantar, Connaught Place and Mandi House were in force today. Check traffic.delhipolice.gov.in.
