The Dhoomakethu 2026 OTT release date was Friday, 23 October 2026, and the film is on Netflix now. The Malayalam time-loop comedy, starring Sajin Gopu and Nikhila Vimal, arrived on the platform exactly 28 days after it opened in cinemas on 25 September 2026. The Netflix listing offers audio in Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada, with English subtitles.

Some older pages still say the OTT date is "Awaiting Announcement" or "TBA". Kerala TV's table is one of them. That information is out of date. Below you'll find how to watch, which languages are available, why the film reached OTT so quickly, and the cast, plot, reviews and box office.

Onmanorama first reported the Netflix date on 20 October 2026. Filmibeat and Asianet Newsable confirmed it, and so did Business Today on 23 October. Director Sudhi Maddison shared the OTT poster on his Instagram (@sudhi_maddison). No report mentions Prime Video, JioHotstar or any other service, so Netflix is the only legal place to stream it.

Rotten Tomatoes lists the runtime as 2h 30m. That looks wrong, because both Sacnilk and Binged give 2h 2m.

How to watch Dhoomakethu on Netflix

You'll need an active Netflix subscription. The film is part of the regular catalogue, not a rental, so there's no extra pay-per-view charge.

  1. Open the Netflix app on your phone, smart TV or laptop, or go straight to the film's page: netflix.com/in/title/83206696.
  2. Or search for "Dhoomakethu". If it doesn't come up straight away, try "Sajin Gopu" or "Nikhila Vimal".
  3. Make sure you've picked the 2026 film with the wedding-day poster, not an older title with a similar name.
  4. Start playback, then open the Audio & Subtitles menu to choose your language.

Skip unofficial sites that offer the film for free. They're piracy pages, they often carry malware and scam ads, and they don't pay the people who made the film.

Can you watch Dhoomakethu in Hindi, Tamil or Telugu?

Yes. The Netflix page lists Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada audio alongside the Malayalam original, and it has English subtitles. That's why searches for "Dhoomakethu Hindi dubbed" jumped once the film began streaming.

Business Today notes that some audio tracks may not appear in every region. If your language is missing from the audio menu:

  • Check that you're on the India catalogue, and look at the full list under Audio & Subtitles while the film plays.
  • Watch in Malayalam with English subtitles. Comedy often lands better in the original voices.

Why Dhoomakethu reached OTT in just 28 days

Four weeks between cinemas and streaming is a short gap. Big releases, especially Hindi films that play in multiplex chains, usually wait around eight weeks. Malayalam films that are doing well also tend to stay in cinemas for more than a month.

Dhoomakethu's numbers help explain the quick move. Sacnilk, an unofficial tracker, has approximate figures showing that ticket sales collapsed after the first week:

  • Week 1: ₹1.16 crore net
  • Week 2: ₹0.27 crore net
  • Week 3: ₹0.06 crore net
  • Day 28 (22 October 2026): about ₹0.01 crore a day

When a film is down to a few lakh rupees a week, an early streaming premiere makes commercial sense. That's our reading of the numbers. Neither the makers nor Netflix have explained the timing.

Dhoomakethu story: what the time-loop comedy is about

The film follows Kuttan (Sajin Gopu), a 35-year-old who is about to marry Sharmila. On the morning of his wedding he wakes from a dream in which he died. Then the day starts repeating, and he has to live it over and over.

Koimoi reports that a masked attacker is at the centre of the mystery. To escape the loop, Kuttan has to work out who is behind it. The film mixes the comedy of a groom caught up in wedding chaos with fantasy and a whodunit. Expect a light, puzzle-style comedy rather than a dark thriller.

One behind-the-scenes detail: Nikhila Vimal told Kerala Kaumudi that she can't swim, and that the underwater lake scene took more than three days to shoot.

Sajin Gopu is best known for scene-stealing supporting roles, and here he gets a full lead. Nikhila Vimal and Shine Tom Chacko are familiar names to Malayalam audiences, while Manju Pillai and Sidharth Bharathan bring comic experience to the ensemble.

Crew

  • Director: Sudhi Maddison

Dhoomakethu reviews and box office: is it worth watching?

Critics were lukewarm, with reviews ranging from mixed to average:

  • Rediff: 2.5/5 (9 October 2026)
  • The Indian Express: 2.5/5 (3 October 2026)
  • The New Indian Express: 3/5 (28 September 2026)
  • The Hindu: called it "average" (25 September 2026)
  • The Hollywood Reporter India: called it "forgettable" (28 September 2026)

Onmanorama describes the reviews as "largely positive", but the scores above suggest that overstates them.

The box office was weak:

  • Opening day: about ₹68 lakh gross in Kerala, according to Koimoi. That made it Kerala's top film that day.
  • Milestone: Koimoi says that was one of Nikhila Vimal's top five openings since COVID.
  • Lifetime: about ₹1.49 crore India net and ₹1.68 crore worldwide gross, with no overseas collections, according to Sacnilk. These are approximate and unofficial, and Sacnilk calls the film a "Disaster".

The makers haven't released official collection figures. Films like this sometimes find a second life on streaming, where trying one out costs nothing extra. If you enjoy Malayalam comedies or time-loop stories, its two-hour runtime makes it an easy weekend watch. Just don't expect a hidden gem, given the reviews.

Not the 1968 Kannada film: why "2026" matters in your search

If you search just "Dhoomakethu", you may land on the Wikipedia page for a 1968 Kannada film of the same name starring Rajkumar. It's a completely different, unrelated movie, and the 2026 Malayalam comedy is not a remake of it.

Some pages have the new film's details wrong too. Filmibeat gives the cinema release date as 16 October, but it was 25 September 2026. Kerala TV still shows the OTT date as "Awaiting Announcement". The confirmed facts are a cinema release on 25 September 2026 and Netflix streaming from 23 October 2026. The film's IMDb entry is tt38990864.
