ColorOS 17: is your phone eligible? The India beta list, and what to expect on 13 October

"Will my phone get ColorOS 17?" Searches for that question took off on 9 October, when the open beta opened in India. Here's the honest answer: the list of officially confirmed phones is short, the list of reported phones is longer, and the full update list for India isn't out yet.

OPPO's own community post (8 October, edited 9 October) lists eight OPPO phones for the ColorOS 17 open beta, with applications open from 9 to 12 October:

OnePlus: the 15 and 13 series

The OnePlus 15, 15R, 13, 13R and 13s are in the India open beta, according to OnePlus Community posts as reported by FoneArena and 91mobiles. It's limited to unbranded Indian units, and each phone needs a specific firmware version before you can apply. Our checker lists the version for each.

There's also a bigger change. 91mobiles reports that OnePlus has confirmed it's moving from OxygenOS to ColorOS from Android 17 onwards. That would make ColorOS 17 the next major update for eligible OnePlus phones. OnePlus hasn't announced the stable rollout schedule yet.

realme: reported, not confirmed

Smartprix and Gadgets Now list the realme GT 8 Pro, GT 8 Pro Dream Edition, GT 7 Pro, GT 7, GT 7 Dream Edition and GT 7T for the India open beta. We couldn't find an official realme post confirming this, so our checker labels them "reported only".

My phone isn't listed. Does that mean no update?

No. These lists are for the open beta, a limited early-testing programme. The stable update usually reaches more phones, but OPPO hasn't published its full ColorOS 17 rollout list for India yet. The global launch on 13 October at 2:30 PM IST is when more details are expected. China's stable rollout began on 8 October, starting with the Find X9 series, OnePlus 15 and realme GT 8 Pro (Gadgets Now).

We'll update the checker with the official list as soon as OPPO publishes it. Until then, be wary of any "complete ColorOS 17 eligible list" that doesn't link to an OPPO or OnePlus source.

Should you join the beta?

Probably not on the phone you rely on for banking or work. OPPO's own post says: "Back up your data first", "Expect bugs" and "Going back to ColorOS 16 isn't always simple." FoneArena notes that a manual rollback wipes internal storage. If you still want in, the steps are: Settings → About device → tap the software update banner → three-dot menu → Beta program → apply and take the quiz. You get up to three attempts at the quiz, but a high score doesn't guarantee a place.

What's new in ColorOS 17

ColorOS 17 is built on Android 17. According to OPPO's claims as reported by Gadgets Now, it includes:

• Design: a new fluid design language with translucent, light-reactive effects.
• Performance: a "Polar Light Engine" that OPPO says cuts runtime memory use by up to 25%, and a "Tidal Engine" that keeps your most-used apps open longer.
• AI tools: an AI Photo Editor and AI Notes.
• Safety: an AI anti-fraud system.

The searches for "coloros 17 app launch animation" come from those new animations. How much of this reaches older phones will depend on the device.
