On the evening of 23 October 2026, the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) released UP TGT Advertisement No. 07/2026. It covers 17,735 Assistant Teacher (TGT) posts in government-aided secondary schools across Uttar Pradesh. One Time Registration (OTR) and online applications opened on 24 October 2026, as scheduled. The last date to apply and pay the fee is 23 November 2026, and the written exam is set for 23–24 December 2026.
This UP TGT cycle brings two changes you need to know about. TET is now required, though you can apply now and clear it by 30 June 2027. And you have to complete a new One Time Registration (OTR) before you can fill in the form. Both are explained below.
A quick caution: when we checked on 25 October 2026, the Advt. 07/2026 PDF still wasn't listed on the official UPESSC site. The copies going around are hosted by news and job sites. One example is the copy hosted by Jagran, which is not an official upload. The figures here come from news reports. Check every detail against the official PDF on upessc.up.gov.in once it's up, before you pay the fee.

UPESSC has said the vacancy count may change. Before the release, one outlet reported 17,740 posts. Most reports of the published advertisement carry the 17,735 figure. Testbook's FAQ says "1,735 posts", which is a typo.
Why the UPESSC TGT notification is trending now
The advertisement came after a 19-day protest by aspirants in Prayagraj, which Amar Ujala described as an indefinite hunger strike. Protesters wanted the exam held under the old rules, which didn't require a Teacher Eligibility Test (TET).
Two days before the release, the state government extended the deadline for clearing TET to 30 June 2027. That means candidates who haven't passed TET yet can still apply in this cycle. Check the official PDF for the exact wording.
The other reason for the interest is the size of this cycle. The previous TGT advertisement (01/2022) had roughly 3,539 posts. At 17,735 posts, the new cycle is around five times larger. UPESSC also announced 1,475 Principal posts (Advt. 08/2026) and 1,172 Head Master posts (Advt. 09/2026) on the same day. With TGT, that's 20,382 posts in all.
UP TGT vacancy 2026: subject-wise posts
Here are the reported vacancies for all 17 subjects. The figures add up to 17,735.
| Subject | Posts |

| English | 2,517 |
| Science | 2,493 |
| Social Science | 2,482 |
| Mathematics | 2,349 |
| Sanskrit | 1,289 |
| Physical Education | 849 |
| Home Science | 798 |
| Art | 775 |
| Biology | 660 |
| Agriculture | 248 |
| Commerce | 134 |
| Urdu | 103 |
| Music (Vocal) | 87 |
| Ranjan Kala (Painting) | 79 |
| Music (Instrumental) | 60 |
| Silai (Sewing) | 21 |
| Total | 17,735 |
Category-wise vacancies
| Category | Posts |
|---|---|
| General | 6,704 |
| OBC | 4,438 |
| SC | 3,698 |
| EWS | 2,882 |
| ST | 13 |
The category split comes from Testbook only, and Testbook's page has other errors, so treat it as unconfirmed. The official PDF should give the subject-by-category breakdown and the split between boys' and girls' schools. That breakdown is what decides your real chances in a small subject.
UP TGT eligibility: education, TET and age
Educational qualification
- Graduation in the relevant subject with at least 50% marks, or a postgraduate degree with at least 45%.
- B.Ed from a recognised institution. L.T. and B.T. also count.
- TET at the upper-primary level (Classes 6–8). The deadline is covered in the next section.
Some subjects need extra or different qualifications:
- Physical Education: B.P.Ed or B.P.E.
- Biology: B.Sc with Botany and Zoology
- Music (Vocal/Instrumental): Sangeet Visharad or Prabhakar
- Commerce: B.Com or M.Com
The TET rule explained
This is the biggest rule change for UP TGT, and it's the part people find most confusing. Here's where it stands according to Times Now Hindi and Aaj Tak:
- For the first time, TET at the upper-primary level is mandatory for TGT applicants. It wasn't required in the 2022 cycle.
- You can apply without having passed TET yet.
- You must have the TET certificate by 30 June 2027.
The change follows an Allahabad High Court ruling that told the state to amend Rule 8 of the recruitment rules, as Testbook reported. The news reports don't say clearly whether both UPTET and CTET are accepted. Read the eligibility clause in the official PDF before you apply. UPESSC now runs UPTET as well (UPTET 02/2026 was held on 2–4 July 2026), so if you still need to qualify, watch for its next notice.
Age limit
The reported age limit is 21 to 62 years, counted on 1 July 2026. Reserved categories get relaxation under state rules. If you're close to either cutoff, check the age clause in the official advertisement.
UP TGT application fee
| Category | Fee |
|---|---|
| General / OBC / EWS | ₹1,000 |
| SC / ST | ₹500 |
| PwD | ₹300 |
Apply and pay before 23 November 2026. One Times Now Hindi headline says you can "apply till 26 November", but 26 November is the end of the correction window. That window is for fixing mistakes in a form you've already submitted. It doesn't give you three extra days to apply. If you miss the 23 November deadline, you're out.
How to apply for UP TGT 2026: OTR and application steps
This cycle adds a compulsory One Time Registration (OTR) step, and you have to finish it before you can fill in the TGT form. The OTR and the application have been live since 24 October 2026. Here's the order to follow:
- Go to the official site at upessc.up.gov.in. Use the homepage itself, not a link someone forwards to you. On 25 October 2026 the site's "Online Recruitment Application" link wasn't working as a direct link. Start from the homepage menu: "One Time Registration (OTR)" or "TGT आवेदन फॉर्म".
- Complete OTR. Register with your mobile number and email, then enter your personal details exactly as they appear on your Class 10 certificate. Note down your OTR number and password.
- Log in and click "Apply Online" next to Advt. 07/2026 (TGT). Choose your subject carefully. Each subject has its own vacancies and qualification rules.
- Fill in your education details: graduation, PG (if any), B.Ed/L.T./B.T., your TET status and any subject-specific qualification.
- Upload your photo and signature in the format the notice specifies.
- Pay the fee online by 23 November 2026.
- Download and save the confirmation page and fee receipt.
- Check the form again, and use the correction window (until 26 November) if anything is wrong.
Tip: big notifications often bring heavy traffic and slow servers in the first few days. Do your OTR early, but take your time over the subject and category fields, because they're the hardest to fix later.
UP TGT exam date and selection process
The written exam is scheduled for 23–24 December 2026. Dates can still slip: the previous cycle's written exam was finally held on 3–4 June 2026, at 614 centres in 36 districts. UPESSC hasn't announced the admit card or exam-centre details yet. Keep an eye on our weekly answer keys and admit cards roundup.
Selection starts with the written exam and is followed by document verification. Reports disagree on whether there's an interview. Aaj Tak and Testbook say selection is by written exam only. Amar Ujala mentions a 40-mark interview. Until the official PDF settles it, treat the interview question as unconfirmed.
Exam pattern
| Item | Reported pattern |
|---|---|
| Questions | 120 multiple-choice questions |
| Split | 90 on the subject, 30 on general knowledge |
| Total marks | 360 |
| Duration | 2 hours |
| Marking | +3 for a right answer, −1 for a wrong one |
This differs from the 125-question pattern of the 2022 cycle that many coaching pages still show. The negative marking matters most: with −1 per wrong answer, guessing blindly will cost you. Prepare for this pattern and your subject's syllabus.
UP TGT salary
Selected Assistant Teachers are placed in Pay Level 7 (₹44,900–₹1,42,400), plus the allowances that apply to staff in UP government-aided schools. Your take-home pay depends on DA, the HRA for your posting city and your deductions.
What about the 2022 UP TGT cycle, UP PGT, Principal and Head Master posts?
- TGT 01/2022: college allotment for 13 subjects came out on 9 September 2026, with about 2,373 of 2,425 posts allotted. The TGT English result was reportedly held back by a High Court case, and its current status is unclear.
- UP PGT (Advt. 06/2026): 2,607 posts. Applications closed around 17 October, and the correction window ran from 19 to 21 October 2026.
- Principal (Advt. 08/2026) and Head Master (Advt. 09/2026): 1,475 and 1,172 posts. Applications opened on 23 October 2026, and the exam is on 7 January 2027.
UPESSC replaced UPSESSB and is now the single recruiting body for these posts. Older UPSESSB-era pages may show outdated dates, so trust the UPESSC site over them.
Quick checklist before you apply
- Read the eligibility for your subject in the official Advt. 07/2026 PDF once it's on upessc.up.gov.in.
- Confirm your TET status, or plan to qualify by 30 June 2027.
- Check that you're between 21 and 62 years old on 1 July 2026.
- Complete OTR, then the TGT form, and pay before 23 November 2026.
- Use the correction window (until 26 November) only for fixes.
