Top 10 air conditioner brands in India (2026): who leads by market share, and which suits you

Searches for India's top AC brands jumped over the past day as festive sales near their end. Here's who actually leads the room-AC market, according to Euromonitor, company filings and business press, and how to choose between them.

TL;DRThe short version

  • The big four: Voltas (19%), LG (17%) and Daikin (13%) held nearly half of India's AC retail volume in 2025, per Euromonitor. Blue Star says its room-AC share was 14.25% in FY26.
  • Next tier: Panasonic holds about 7–8% (BusinessLine, March 2026). Lloyd, Samsung, Godrej, Haier and Hitachi round out the list, but none of our sources gives a reliable share for them.
  • What matters more than the logo: the right tonnage for your room, the BEE star rating, an inverter compressor, and service in your city.

Short answer: the top air conditioner brands in India by market share are Voltas, LG, Daikin and Blue Star, followed by Panasonic. Euromonitor says Voltas, LG and Daikin alone made up nearly half of AC retail volume in 2025. Lloyd, Samsung, Godrej, Haier and Hitachi complete the top 10 that most buyers shortlist, but we couldn't find reliable share figures for them, so we list them without numbers.

Market-share figures come from different sources that measure slightly different things (retail volume vs. company estimates, calendar 2025 vs. FY26). We've named the source for each and haven't mixed them into one invented ranking.

How we built this list

  • Ranks 1–5 use published market-share figures: Euromonitor's 2025 retail-volume shares, Blue Star's FY26 figure as quoted by CARE Ratings, the Voltas MD's own estimate, and BusinessLine's March 2026 report on Panasonic.
  • Ranks 6–10 are the other large brands sold nationally in India. They're in no particular order, because none of our sources gives a dependable share for them.
  • We didn't test ACs. For a specific model, compare the BEE star label, the cooling capacity in watts and the warranty on the listing.

The brands, one by one

1. Voltas

Euromonitor puts Voltas first with 19% of India's AC retail volume in 2025. Its managing director told Outlook Business the share is "roughly 18%" and that the company aims for about 20%. BusinessLine's March 2026 report put it at 18–20%. Voltas is part of the Tata group, and the MD said the Tata name "resonates strongly" with buyers.

4. Blue Star

Blue Star's management says the company had a 14.25% share of room ACs as of 31 March 2026, CARE Ratings noted in July 2026. That's measured differently from Euromonitor's numbers, so Blue Star and Daikin are best seen as close rivals. CARE also notes Blue Star sells through more than 8,800 stores in over 650 locations.

5. Panasonic

BusinessLine reported in March 2026 that Panasonic holds about 7–8% of India's room-AC market, was targeting around 1.1 million AC sales this year, and makes its ACs at a 76-acre plant in Jhajjar, Haryana. About 45% of its AC sales came from its smart range.

6–10. Lloyd, Samsung, Godrej, Haier, Hitachi

These five are sold nationally and show up on most shortlists, but published share figures for them vary widely or aren't independently confirmed, so we haven't ranked them against each other.

Buying checklist

  • Size it to the room. Retailers commonly suggest 1 ton for a small bedroom, 1.5 ton for a mid-size room, and 2 ton for large or top-floor rooms. Sunlight and the number of people matter too.
  • Read the BEE star label. More stars mean lower running cost. BusinessLine notes BEE revised its efficiency norms for 2026, so compare labels from the same year.
  • Choose inverter if you run the AC for long hours; it adjusts compressor speed instead of switching on and off.
  • Check installation costs: extra copper pipe, the outdoor stand and wall drilling are often charged separately.
  • Check service in your city. A brand's local service network matters more than a small price difference.
  • Prices may rise. BusinessLine reported in March 2026 that makers were preparing 12–15% increases on input costs.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the No. 1 AC brand in India?

Voltas. Euromonitor puts it at 19% of air-conditioner retail volume in 2025, ahead of LG (17%) and Daikin (13%). Voltas' managing director told Outlook Business its share is roughly 18%.

Is Blue Star bigger than Daikin?

It depends whose figures you use. Blue Star's management says it had a 14.25% room-AC share in FY26, which is above the 13% Euromonitor gives Daikin for 2025. The two numbers measure slightly different things and periods, so treat them as close rivals.

Which AC brand is best for a small room?

Brand matters less than size. A 1 ton AC is the usual retailer rule of thumb for a small bedroom, 1.5 ton for a mid-size room, and 2 ton for large or top-floor rooms. Pick an inverter model with a high BEE star rating from a brand that has an authorised service centre near you.

Are AC prices going up in 2026?

BusinessLine reported in March 2026 that AC makers were preparing 12–15% price increases, citing copper and aluminium costs, logistics and revised BEE energy-efficiency norms. Check current festive prices before you buy.
