Short answer: PC Jeweller's share price jumped on Friday, 16 October after Cupid's chairman Aditya Kumar Halwasiya bought shares worth ₹70 crore, on top of the company's claim that it has cleared all its bank debt. What happened on 16 October
- The buy: Halwasiya, chairman and MD of healthcare and FMCG company Cupid, acquired 5.10 crore PC Jeweller shares worth ₹70 crore, BusinessLine reported. BusinessLine notes he is the fastest wealth creator on the M3M Hurun India Rich List 2026, at rank 193.
- The price: the stock touched a 52-week high of ₹17.13 during the day (up 18.47%) and settled at ₹16.28 (BusinessToday). That took its gain for 2026 to 74.87%.
- The sector: the Economic Times reported that jewellery stocks, including PC Jeweller, rallied the same morning after mutual fund houses temporarily paused fresh subscriptions to gold ETF fund-of-funds.
A day earlier, on 15 October, ASI Industries bought 30 lakh shares for ₹4.34 crore through the exchange. Its BSE filing says the purchase is for investment, and that it doesn't intend to take control.
The debt-free claim
PC Jeweller has told the exchanges that it has repaid all 14 banks in its lending consortium, clearing about ₹3,000 crore, after opting for a one-time settlement in September 2024. It says repayments finished ahead of schedule, and that all mortgaged assets and personal and corporate guarantees have now been released, with original title deeds handed back.
The company also says it received ₹142 crore from overseas export debtors during the quarter, and that consolidated revenue grew about 28% year on year in Q2 FY27. It runs nearly 50 jewellery stores across Indian cities. Those are the company's figures; the audited quarter numbers come on 21 October.
The ASM tag: what it means
The stock is under the short-term Additional Surveillance Measure (ASM) framework on both BSE and NSE. Exchanges use ASM to warn investors about unusually volatile stocks, and it can mean higher margins for traders. It isn't a trading ban, but it is a reminder that a ₹16 stock that has gained 75% this year can also fall fast.
