Navratra sthapna muhurat today: your city's Ghatasthapana time, the Abhijit option and Chitra nakshatra

Sharad Navratri starts today, Sunday 11 October. In Delhi the Ghatasthapana muhurat is 6:19 to 10:12 AM, with Abhijit Muhurat from 11:44 AM to 12:31 PM as the back-up. Here are the windows for 25 cities, why Chitra nakshatra and Vaidhriti yoga matter, and the 9-day calendar to Dussehra.

TL;DRThe short version

  • Ghatasthapana is today, Sunday 11 October. In Delhi the main muhurat is 6:19 to 10:12 AM; Abhijit Muhurat, the back-up, is 11:44 AM to 12:31 PM (Drik Panchang).
  • Your city's window is different. It opens as early as 5:31 AM in Kolkata and runs as late as 10:29 AM in Ahmedabad. Mumbai is 6:31 to 10:27 AM. All 25 cities are in the table below.
  • Chitra nakshatra and Vaidhriti yoga run through both windows today. Drik Panchang says they are best avoided but not prohibited; what matters most is finishing before Hindu midday while Pratipada lasts.

Sharad Navratri begins this morning, and almost everyone searching wants the same thing: the kalash sthapana time for their own city, and whether it's too late if they miss it. Here are both answers, taken city by city from Drik Panchang, which calculates the muhurat separately for each place from local sunrise.

Ghatasthapana muhurat today, by city

All times are IST for Sunday, 11 October 2026. Each row comes from that city's own Drik Panchang page, checked at 7:07 AM IST today. You can also pick your city in our live muhurat finder, which shows how many minutes are left.

Raipur 5:58–9:53 AM 11:27 AM–12:14 PM
Ahmedabad 6:35–10:29 AM 12:03–12:50 PM

Pune 6:27–10:23 AM 11:58 AM–12:45 PM

Bengaluru 6:09–10:07 AM 11:42 AM–12:30 PM
Chennai 5:59–9:57 AM 11:32 AM–12:19 PM

The spread is about an hour from east to west, because the main window is tied to local sunrise. Kolkata's closes at 9:26 AM, before Ahmedabad's has been open three hours.

Missed the morning window? The Abhijit option

Drik Panchang's rule is that the best time is the first third of the day while Pratipada is running. If that isn't possible, Ghatasthapana can be done in Abhijit Muhurat, the window around local midday. It says the most important condition is to finish before Hindu midday while Pratipada lasts, and it lists afternoon, night and anything beyond sixteen ghatis after sunrise as prohibited.

So if you can't make 10:12 AM in Delhi, the back-up is 11:44 AM to 12:31 PM. After that, ask your family priest. Drik Panchang also says it doesn't recommend using Choghadiya timings for Ghatasthapana, even though many sites list them.

Why Chitra nakshatra and Vaidhriti yoga matter today

This is the part confusing most people. Drik Panchang flags today's muhurat as falling during "prohibited" Chitra nakshatra and "prohibited" Vaidhriti yoga. Chitra runs from 9:42 PM last night to 10:32 PM tonight, and Vaidhriti from 10:02 PM last night to 9:05 PM tonight (Delhi), so neither can be dodged by picking a different hour today.

Drik Panchang's own guidance resolves this: Chitra and Vaidhriti are advised against, but not prohibited. Pratipada and the before-midday rule come first. That's why it still gives a full muhurat for today instead of moving Ghatasthapana. Some families prefer the Abhijit window in such years; follow your own tradition.

Why different sites show different times

  • City. A Delhi time is wrong for Kolkata by nearly 50 minutes. Use your own city's row.
  • Method. Drik Panchang also tries to fit the muhurat into a dual-nature lagna (Kanya at sunrise this season) and doesn't use Choghadiya. Sites using Choghadiya or a fixed lagna will show other slots.
  • Tithi start. Pratipada began at 9:19 PM on 10 October, which is why some posts said Navratri starts on the 10th. Ghatasthapana is a daytime ritual, so it happens this morning.

Two quirks this year. Saptami runs across two sunrises (17 and 18 Oct), and so Durga Ashtami and Maha Navami fall on the same date, Monday 19 October, according to The Economic Times and News9. Sources agree on the dates and colours but map the goddesses to the last two days differently, so follow your family's panchang for Kanya Pujan. Dussehra is Tuesday, 20 October; Bengal's Bijoya Dashami and Durga visarjan follow on Wednesday, 21 October, per Drik Panchang's Kolkata calendar.

The full festival list to Dev Deepawali, with countdowns and calendar reminders, is in Festival Kab Hai 2026.
