Diwali gifts for friends 2026: 8 ideas they'll actually use, from the tea lover to the gadget friend

Short answer: the best Diwali gifts for friends are things they'll use after the festival is over. Pick for the person (the chai lover, the gadget friend, the one who hosts every party) rather than buying the same sweet box for everyone. Below are eight ideas, what to check on each listing, and what two gifting creators found when they actually unboxed their picks. Every shop link is an Amazon search, not a single product, so you compare live prices, sellers and ratings yourself.

We haven't tested these products and we don't quote prices for search results, because sale prices change by the hour. The Amazon links are affiliate links; see the disclosure at the bottom.

How we chose

• Use over looks. Each idea solves something real for that kind of friend. As gifting creator Dietichen puts it at the end of her Amazon gift review, don't just look at how beautiful a gift is, also look at how much the other person will use it.
• Easy to check. For each pick we name the one spec or label that separates a good listing from a bad one.
• No sponsored picks. Nobody paid to be here.

The picks: Diwali gifts for friends, by the kind of friend

The tea or coffee lover

A glass kettle or a borosilicate tea set is the pick both creators kept coming back to. In her Amazon review, Dietichen called a flame-proof Borosil glass kettle the gift she'd put at the top of her list, because you can make tea, coffee or green tea directly on the flame and it's microwave and dishwasher safe. She quoted ₹725 for the one-litre size when she recorded in September, with a cheaper 650 ml version; check today's price, it will have moved. Sumandeep Kaur of Art Brings Peace picked a borosilicate glass pot for cooking and serving, but noted the glass is very thin, so it needs careful packing.

The gadget friend

Earbuds work at almost any budget. Check the battery life (case plus buds), the warranty period, and whether the brand has a service centre near your friend, which matters more than a spec sheet. A power bank is the other safe bet. If your friend flies, read our power bank rules explainer: airlines care about the watt-hour rating, and power banks must go in cabin baggage.

The friend who hosts

Diwali week is card-party week for a lot of friend groups. A party or card game gets used that very night, which is more than most gifts manage. Check the player count and the language of the cards. Keep it to games of skill or fun: we don't recommend real-money gaming apps as gifts.

The décor lover

Scented candle sets, tea-light stands and brass or metal showpieces fit the festival and wrap easily. Dietichen opened her list with a budget set of three scented soy candles in different colours. Sumandeep Kaur liked a solid-metal candle stand with glass covers for its weight and finish.

The foodie or the friend who cooks

A ceramic serving bowl set or a dry fruit box is practical right when they're hosting. For bowls, check microwave and dishwasher safety and the sizes in the set. For dry fruit and sweets, check the packing date and net weight, not just the box.

The desk worker and the plant person

An insulated steel bottle or a desk organiser gets used every working day. For bottles, check the hot and cold hours claimed and whether the lid is leak-proof. An indoor plant outlasts every other gift on this list if you choose a low-light variety. Check reviews about the plant's condition on delivery.

What one creator learned from unboxing

Two lessons from Sumandeep Kaur, who ordered and opened her picks on camera:

• Gift sets can be flimsy. In her Meesho haul, she found the steel tray in one bowl-and-spoon gift set was thin, and said it's fine for bulk gifting but not where you want to give something of very good quality. A set of five bowls she ordered from another listing was noticeably sturdier. Read reviews for build quality, not just the photos.
• Record the unboxing. She also suggests recording a video when you open fragile items like glassware, so a refund claim for breakage is easy to prove.

Bank and credit card offers

The main card offer on Amazon right now is with SBI credit cards. According to SBI Card's terms, until 20 October 2026:

• Non-phone categories: a 10% instant discount on orders of at least ₹2,490, up to ₹1,250 per card on full payment or ₹1,500 on EMI.
• Not covered: gift cards, prepaid recharges, bill payments and digital gold. SBI also excludes Cashback SBI, Flipkart SBI and Paytm SBI cards, corporate cards and RuPay credit cards used through UPI.

So if you're buying for several friends, bundling the gifts into one order above ₹2,490 is how you'd actually unlock the SBI discount. If your card isn't SBI, compare what your own card gives before the sale ends.

Buying checklist

• Order early. Diwali is on 8 November and deliveries slow in the last week. Order by early November for anything you want on time.
• Check the seller, not just the product. Ratings, return window and whether it's fulfilled by the marketplace matter more during sales.
• Electronics: look for the BIS registration and the warranty, and keep the invoice.
• Edibles: check the packing date, best-before date and net weight.
• If an order goes wrong, call the National Consumer Helpline on 1915 or file a complaint at consumerhelpline.gov.in. Keep the order ID and screenshots.

FAQ

What is a good Diwali gift for a friend under ₹1,000?

A scented candle set, a glass kettle, a party game or an indoor plant are usually available in that range. Compare live prices, since they change during sales.

What can I gift my best friend on Diwali?

Something tied to what they actually do every day: earbuds for a commuter, a tea set for the chai lover, a power bank for the traveller. Add a handwritten card; it costs nothing and is often the part people keep.

Does the SBI card offer on Amazon work on gift cards?

No. SBI Card's terms exclude Amazon-branded and other gift cards, recharges, bill payments and digital gold.

My take

By Anmol Ratan Sachdeva

If I had one rule for Diwali gifts for friends, it would be this: skip the generic hamper. Everyone gets three sweet boxes and a dry fruit tin in Diwali week, and they blur together. A single useful thing chosen for that one friend gets remembered.

If I had to pick one gift for most friends, I'd go with the glass kettle or a good tea set. It's used every day, it isn't something people usually buy for themselves, and both creators I drew on singled out glass kettles or glass cookware. For the gadget friend, I'd rather buy a well-known power bank with a proper BIS mark than cheaper earbuds with a brand nobody services.

And if you're buying for a whole group, put everything in one order above ₹2,490 before 20 October if you have an SBI card. That's the one offer this week that saves real money on gifts.
