For JEE Main 2027 Session 1 you will need a recent colour photo (JPG, 10–200 KB), a signature (JPG, 10–100 KB) and your Class 10 certificate as a PDF (50–300 KB). You will also need Aadhaar or another photo ID, plus a category or PwD/UDID certificate if you are claiming a reservation. As of 22 October 2026, NTA has not opened registration or released the 2027 Information Bulletin, so these specifications come from the 2026 cycle. They usually carry over, but check them against the bulletin once it comes out.
The checklist below sorts every item into "uploaded" or "typed in", gives the exact file sizes, and explains how to fix the problems that most often hold up applications.
Has JEE Main 2027 Session 1 registration started?
No, not yet. Here is where things stand:
- Exam dates (tentative): NTA's calendar of 16 September 2026 lists Session 1 for 22, 23, 24, 28, 29 and 30 January 2027, with 31 January as a buffer day.
- Registration (expected): In earlier years the form opened in late October or early November: 31 October 2025 for the 2026 cycle, 28 October 2024 for 2025, and 1 November 2023 for 2024. Most coaching and news sites expect the 2027 form in the last week of October 2026. That is a guess. NTA has not announced a date.
- Session 2 (expected): Exam around April 2027, with registration around February. Neither is official.
- Official site: jeemain.nta.nic.in is the only place to apply and the place to download the bulletin.
Around 13.55 lakh candidates registered for Session 1 in 2026, so traffic on the portal is heavy in the first few days. If your documents are ready beforehand, you can finish the form in one sitting.

What you upload vs. what you type in
Many guides mix these up. Here is the split under the 2026 process.
Uploaded as files
- Photograph (JPG)
- Signature (JPG)
- Class 10 certificate (PDF)
- PwD/UDID certificate (PDF), if applicable
- A photo ID image, only if you are not using Aadhaar or DigiLocker
Typed into the form
- Class 12 board, roll number, school and year of passing. You do not upload a Class 12 marksheet.
- Category certificate number, date of issue and issuing authority
- Father's, mother's or guardian's name (Aadhaar doesn't store these, so they are not auto-filled)
- Four preferred exam cities
- Paper choice: Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech), Paper 2A (B.Arch) or Paper 2B (B.Planning)
- Exam language (the exam is offered in 13 languages)
Auto-filled from Aadhaar
From the 2026 cycle onwards, NTA pulls your name, date of birth, gender, photo and address from UIDAI. That saves time, but it means any mistake in your Aadhaar goes straight into your application.
JEE Main 2027 photo size and signature rules
Photograph checklist
- Recent, in colour. Black-and-white photos are not accepted.
- White background, about 3.5 × 4.5 cm
- About 80% of the frame is your face, with both ears visible
- No mask, cap or tinted glasses. Clear prescription glasses are generally fine if there is no glare
- JPG/JPEG, between 10 KB and 200 KB
Signature checklist
- Sign with a black or blue pen on plain white paper. Don't use lined pages.
- Crop tightly to about 3.5 × 1.5 cm
- Your own signature, not your parent's, and not in capital letters
- JPG/JPEG, between 10 KB and 100 KB
How to resize your photo and signature correctly
- Use a scan or a straight-on photo in good light. Don't take a screenshot, because it lowers quality and adds borders.
- Crop first. Use your phone's built-in editor to remove extra background so that the face (or signature) fills most of the frame.
- Check the format. Some phones save in HEIC. Convert to JPG before you upload.
- Check the file size under "Details" or "Properties". If it is over the limit, compress it gradually. If it is under 10 KB, it is probably too small and blurry, so re-export at a higher quality.
- For the Class 10 PDF, scan all relevant pages into a single PDF and keep it between 50 and 300 KB. Make sure your name and date of birth are clearly readable.
- Keep the files in a folder labelled "JEE 2027". You will need the same photo again for Session 2.
Aadhaar and Class 10 mismatch: fix it now
This is the problem that catches out the most applicants. In the 2026 cycle NTA said many candidates had found mismatches between their Aadhaar details and their Class 10 records. Because the form now pulls data from Aadhaar, a different spelling or date of birth can stop you from submitting or cause trouble at verification later.
Before the form opens, check your Aadhaar against your Class 10 certificate:
- Name: exact spelling, initials and order (for example, "Kumar Rahul" vs "Rahul Kumar")
- Date of birth: must match the Class 10 certificate exactly
- Photo: should be recent enough to be recognisably you
- Address and father's name, which NTA flagged in its 29 September 2025 advisory for the 2026 cycle
If something doesn't match, here is what to do:
- Treat your Class 10 certificate as the reference, since it is the date-of-birth proof NTA uses.
- Correct your name or date of birth at an Aadhaar Enrolment/Update Centre and take the Class 10 certificate as supporting proof. UIDAI limits how many times your name and date of birth can be changed, so get it right first time.
- Keep the update request number (URN) and track the status on the UIDAI site.
- Do this now. UIDAI corrections can take days or weeks, and registration usually stays open for only about four weeks.
NTA has not issued a 2027 version of this advisory yet. The 2026 guidance is still the best indication of what NTA will check.
Category, EWS and PwD/UDID certificate rules
You don't upload a category certificate at registration, but you do enter its number, issue date and issuing authority. Those details will be checked again at counselling and admission, so a weak certificate now can cost you your seat later.
EWS and OBC-NCL
- Both depend on income, so an old certificate may no longer count as "current". If yours is from an earlier financial year, apply for a fresh one now.
- OBC candidates need the Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) certificate in the central government format. A plain caste certificate is not enough.
- The candidate's name on the certificate should match Aadhaar and the Class 10 certificate.
SC and ST
- Make sure the certificate was issued by a competent authority and that you can read the certificate number and issue date clearly.
- Look for spelling differences in your name or your father's name.
PwD and UDID
- NTA's 2026 advisory asked candidates to make sure their UDID card was valid and renewed. If your disability certificate is temporary or close to expiry, renew it now.
- Upload it as a PDF of 50–300 KB.
- If you will need a scribe or extra time, read the bulletin's PwD section carefully. Those requests usually require specific formats.
Expected fees and other form details
These are the 2026 rates for one paper in Indian exam centres. They have not been confirmed for 2027.
- General (male): ₹1,000
- EWS / OBC-NCL (male): ₹900
- Female (General/EWS/OBC): ₹800
- SC / ST / PwD / Transgender: ₹500
Choose your four exam cities in advance, ideally places you can reach on time in January. You choose cities, not specific centres. The centre appears later on the city slip and admit card. We post those releases in our weekly roundup of answer keys and admit cards.
If you are also preparing for boards, check the CBSE 2027 date sheet and two-board-exam plan so the January JEE dates don't catch you off guard.
What to verify once the 2027 bulletin is out
When NTA publishes the JEE Main 2027 Information Bulletin, check these points before you start the form:
- Photo and signature size limits and dimensions
- Whether the Class 10 PDF size range is still 50–300 KB
- The cut-off date for EWS and OBC-NCL certificates
- Whether Aadhaar autofill continues and which alternative IDs are accepted
- Fees for 2027, including fees for more than one paper and for overseas centres
- Registration start and end dates, and the correction-window dates
- Session 1 exam dates (the January dates are currently tentative)
Mistakes that get applications into trouble
- Uploading a black-and-white, selfie-style or old photo
- Uploading your signature in capital letters or on lined paper
- Entering an expired EWS/OBC-NCL certificate number
- Using a parent's or coaching centre's mobile number that you can't access for OTPs
- Applying through a cyber café's shared login, or on a lookalike website. Use a personal device and only jeemain.nta.nic.in. If you are cheated by a fake "registration help" site, report it straight away through the 1930 cyber fraud helpline.
- Submitting more than one application. NTA allows only one per candidate.
