IIT JAM 2027 Registration Deadline Extended to October 24: Direct Link, Fees and How to Apply

The JAM 2027 application window now closes on 24 October 2026, as confirmed on IIT Kharagpur's official site. Here are the JOAPS steps, the fees for each category, the documents you need and the form mistakes to avoid before the deadline.

The last date to apply for JAM 2027 is 24 October 2026. IIT Kharagpur's official site, jam.iitkgp.ac.in, now reads "LAST DATE TO APPLY (EXTENDED): 24 Oct 2026". You apply on the JOAPS portal at joaps.iitkgp.ac.in. The fee is ₹1,000 for one paper if you are female, SC, ST or PwD, and ₹2,000 for one paper for everyone else.

If you haven't finished your form yet, this guide covers what you need: the steps in order, the documents to keep ready, how to choose your papers and cities, and the mistakes that most often cause trouble later. The notes below are current as of 23 October 2026.

JAM 2027 last date: why the deadline keeps changing

Many students are confused because the closing date has moved several times, and plenty of websites still show an old one. Here is the full history:

  • 12 October 2026: the date given in an early brochure and early news reports
  • 19 October 2026: the date in Brochure v2, widely reported as the last date
  • 22 October 2026: the first extension, reported by the media
  • 24 October 2026: the second extension, confirmed on the official JAM site

Don't count on a third extension. The exam is on 14 February 2027 and IIT Kharagpur still has to check forms, run the correction window and issue admit cards. Plan to submit today or early tomorrow, not in the last hour when the portal is busiest.

Some pages say registration opened on 5 September. The correct date is 11 September. The JAM score is used for roughly 3,000 seats across the participating IITs, according to the official site. Exams are held only in India. There are no centres abroad.

Who can apply

You can apply if you already hold a bachelor's degree or will be in the final year of one in 2027. There is no age limit and no cap on the number of attempts. Keep in mind that each admitting IIT sets its own eligibility rules for its programmes, and qualifying JAM does not guarantee you a seat. Before you choose a paper, check the minimum marks and subject requirements for the programmes you want.

IIT JAM 2027 application fee

CategoryOne paperTwo papers
Female, SC, ST, PwD₹1,000₹1,350
All other candidates₹2,000₹2,700

The fee is non-refundable. Media reports say that changing your exam city, paper, category, gender or date of birth during the correction window costs an extra ₹300, plus any difference in fee. It is cheaper to get these details right the first time.

Documents to keep ready before you start

If you scan everything first, the form takes much less time. Keep these files on your device:

  • A recent passport-style photograph
  • Your signature
  • Class 10 and Class 12 certificates
  • Bachelor's degree marksheets (all semesters available so far if you are in your final year)
  • A category certificate (SC/ST) or PwD certificate, if it applies to you

Check the file size and format limits shown on each upload field before you scan. Re-scanning in a hurry is one of the most common delays on deadline day.

How to apply for JAM 2027 on JOAPS: step by step

  1. Open the portal. Go to joaps.iitkgp.ac.in. You can reach it from the "Apply" link on jam.iitkgp.ac.in. Only use these official addresses.
  2. Register. Enter your name exactly as it appears on your Class 10 certificate, plus your email ID, mobile number and a password. Use an email and phone number you will still have until admissions end in 2027.
  3. Verify and log in. Complete the email or mobile verification, then log in with the enrolment ID and password you created. Write the enrolment ID down somewhere safe.
  4. Fill in personal details. Enter your date of birth, gender, category, PwD status, nationality and address. Check gender, category and date of birth twice, because changing them later costs money.
  5. Add academic details. Enter your Class 10, Class 12 and bachelor's degree information, including your university, subject and marks or CGPA.
  6. Choose your paper(s). You can pick one or two of the seven papers. If you pick two, one must be a morning paper and the other an afternoon paper (see below).
  7. Pick three exam cities. Your 2nd and 3rd choices must be in the same zone as your 1st. There are eight zones in all.
  8. Upload documents. Add your photo, signature, certificates and marksheets. Preview each file to make sure it is clear.
  9. Pay the fee. Pay online. Wait for the confirmation screen, and don't press back or refresh while the payment is processing.
  10. Submit and save. Download or print the submitted form and keep the payment receipt. Log in again later to confirm the status shows the form as complete.

Choosing your papers: sessions and combinations

JAM 2027 has seven papers split across two sessions, according to timings reported by PW:

  • Morning (9:30 AM to 12:30 PM): Chemistry (CY), Geology (GG), Mathematics (MA)
  • Afternoon (2:30 PM to 5:30 PM): Biotechnology (BT), Economics (EN), Mathematical Statistics (MS), Physics (PH)

So Mathematics with Mathematical Statistics is a valid pair, and so is Chemistry with Physics. Physics with Mathematical Statistics is not, because both are afternoon papers. A second paper costs relatively little (₹350 more for reserved categories, ₹700 more for others). It is worth adding if it opens up programmes you would actually join.

Exam pattern in brief

Each paper lasts 3 hours and has 60 questions worth 100 marks:

  • Section A: 30 multiple-choice questions, 50 marks. Wrong answers lose marks: one-third of a mark on 1-mark questions and two-thirds on 2-mark questions.
  • Section B: 10 multiple-select questions, 20 marks. There is no negative marking, but there are no partial marks either.
  • Section C: 20 numerical-answer questions, 30 marks, with no negative marking.

Common JAM 2027 form mistakes (and how to avoid them)

  • Name mismatch. Your name must match your Class 10 certificate exactly. Spelling differences can cause problems when admitting IITs verify your documents.
  • Wrong category, or no valid certificate. If you claim SC, ST or PwD, your certificate must be valid and in the right format. Otherwise you could lose the benefit when your documents are checked.
  • Two papers in the same session. Read the session list above before you pick a second paper.
  • Cities in different zones. All three city choices must be in the same zone as your first. Pick cities you can actually travel to on 14 February.
  • Blurry or cropped uploads. A photo where your face or signature is unclear can get your form flagged for correction.
  • Payment that looks complete but isn't. If your bank account was debited but the portal shows the fee as unpaid, don't pay again straight away. Wait a while, check the status, and contact the JAM office with your transaction details if it doesn't update.
  • Using a shared email or phone number. Admit card and result updates go to these contacts, so use your own.
  • Relying on outdated news. Articles that say 12 or 19 October are out of date. Go by the official site.

Is JAM conducted by राष्ट्रीय परीक्षा एजेंसी (NTA)?

No. JAM is run by the IITs, with a different IIT organising it each year. IIT Kharagpur is running JAM 2027, IIT Bombay ran JAM 2026 and IIT Delhi ran JAM 2025. The National Testing Agency (राष्ट्रीय परीक्षा एजेंसी) has nothing to do with it.

NTA is trending alongside JAM because on 23 October 2026 it released its proposed exam calendar for December 2026 to March 2027. That calendar includes CUET PG from 1 March to 25 March 2027, with 30 and 31 March kept as buffer dates. Many science graduates sit both exams, so the searches overlap.

After you submit: what happens next

IIT Kharagpur checks the forms it receives. If something needs fixing, such as an unclear document or a missing certificate, you will usually be told through the JOAPS portal or by email. The correction window is reported to open around 10 November 2026. That is when you can fix mistakes, paying the change fee where it applies. The admit card date hasn't been announced yet. We track admit card releases every week in our answer keys and admit cards roundup, and you can find more exam deadline updates on the kyuntrend.in homepage.

A quick note on sources: the 24 October deadline, the exam and result dates and the seat count come from the official JAM site. The fee amounts, session timings and correction-window date come from media reports. Check the official brochure on jam.iitkgp.ac.in before you pay.

What is the last date to apply for IIT JAM 2027?

The last date is 24 October 2026. The official site jam.iitkgp.ac.in now shows it as the extended deadline. Earlier dates of 12, 19 and 22 October are out of date. Another extension is unlikely because the exam is on 14 February 2027, so submit your form on JOAPS as early as you can.

What is the JAM 2027 application fee?

Female, SC, ST and PwD candidates pay ₹1,000 for one paper and ₹1,350 for two papers. All other candidates pay ₹2,000 for one paper and ₹2,700 for two. The fee is non-refundable. Reports say changing your city, paper, category, gender or date of birth later costs an extra ₹300 plus any fee difference.

Can final-year students apply for JAM 2027?

Yes. Students in the final year of a bachelor's degree in 2027 can apply, as can candidates who have already graduated. There is no age limit and no cap on attempts. Each admitting IIT sets its own programme eligibility, so check those requirements before you choose your paper.

Is JAM 2027 conducted by NTA?

No. IIT Kharagpur is conducting JAM 2027, and the IITs take turns organising it each year. The National Testing Agency (राष्ट्रीय परीक्षा एजेंसी) conducts other exams such as CUET PG, which is proposed for 1 to 25 March 2027 in NTA's latest calendar. Many science students take both exams.

Can I appear for two papers in JAM 2027?

Yes. You can choose two papers if one is from the morning session and the other from the afternoon session. Morning papers are Chemistry, Geology and Mathematics. Afternoon papers are Biotechnology, Economics, Mathematical Statistics and Physics. For example, Mathematics with Physics is allowed, but Physics with Mathematical Statistics is not.

When will the JAM 2027 correction window open?

Reports say the form correction window will open around 10 November 2026. You can fix errors then, but changes to your city, paper, category, gender or date of birth reportedly cost ₹300 plus any fee difference. Check every detail before you submit, and watch jam.iitkgp.ac.in for the confirmed date.
