Gokul election result 2026: Satej Patil's panel wins 14 of 25 seats, Mahayuti 11; Navid Mushrif loses
Congress MLA Satej Patil's Rajarshi Shahu Shetkari Samvichari Aghadi has won control of Gokul, Kolhapur's ₹4,185-crore milk cooperative, by 14 seats to 11. The ruling Mahayuti's panel took most of the general seats, but Patil's side swept all five reserved seats, and that decided the board. Here's the seat split, who won and lost, and why it matters beyond Kolhapur.
TL;DRThe short version
- Result: in the Gokul (Kolhapur Zilla Sahakari Dudh Utpadak Sangh) board election, counted on Monday, 19 October 2026, Congress MLA Satej Patil's Rajarshi Shahu Shetkari Samvichari Aghadi (symbol: whistle) won 14 of 25 seats. The Mahayuti-backed Chhatrapati Shahu Shetkari Vikas Aghadi (cup and saucer) won 11. A majority is 13 (News18 Marathi, ABP Majha, Sarkarnama).
- How it was won: the Mahayuti panel took 11 of the 20 general seats, but Patil's panel won all 5 reserved seats (two women's seats, OBC, SC and VJ/NT). Minister Hasan Mushrif's son Navid Mushrif, a former Gokul chairman, lost the OBC seat to Shashikant Khot. Former chairmen Arun Dongle and Vishwas Patil also lost.
- Why it matters: Gokul handled 65.40 crore litres of milk in 2025-26 and reports a provisional turnover of ₹4,185 crore. It says it pays milk producers 76–82% of every rupee of sales. Whoever runs the board sets that payout, and in Kolhapur control of Gokul is read as control of the district's politics.

His Rajarshi Shahu Shetkari Samvichari Aghadi won 14 of the 25 seats on the board of Kolhapur's district milk union, and the Mahayuti-backed panel won 11. The result turned on the five reserved seats, which Patil's side swept, while the Mahayuti panel won more of the general seats.

Gokul election result 2026: the numbers
| Samvichari Aghadi (Satej Patil) | Chhatrapati Shahu Shetkari Vikas Aghadi (Mahayuti) | |
|---|---|---|
| Symbol | Whistle (शिट्टी) | Cup and saucer (कपबशी) |
| General seats (20) | 9 | 11 |
| Reserved seats (5) | 5 | 0 |
| Total (25) | 14 | 11 |
A majority on the board is 13. Polling was held on Sunday, 18 October, and ABP Majha put turnout at 99.96% of eligible voters. That's normal in a cooperative election, where the voters are delegates (ठरावधारक) of member village dairy societies, not the general public. Fifty candidates contested the 25 seats.
Who won
Samvichari Aghadi (14): Abhijit Taishete (the top scorer, with 2,080 votes), Shashikant Patil Chuyekar (2,045), Babasaheb Shripati Chougale, Kisan Chougale, Rahul Bajrang Desai, Babasaheb Vishnu Devkar, Vidyadhar Gurbe, Sachin Ghorpade and Vishwajeet Jadhav in the general seats. In the reserved seats: Anjana Kedari Redekar and Bhagyashree Dhiraj Dongle (women), Shashikant Khot (OBC), Rajubaba Awale (SC) and Bayaji Shelke (VJ/NT).
Mahayuti panel (11): its general-seat winners include Rajesh Patil, Rahul P. N. Patil, Ranjit K. P. Patil, Ranjitsinh Dilip Patil, Ambrishsinh Ghatge, Chetan Narke, Ajit Shashikant Narke, Ajit Pandurang Patil and Virendra Mandlik.
Note: News18 Marathi's table lists Vidyadhar Gurbe under the cup-and-saucer symbol. ABP Majha lists him with Patil's panel, which is the only way both outlets' 14–11 totals add up. We've followed ABP Majha and will correct this if the official list differs.
Who lost, and why it stings
- Navid Mushrif, son of state minister Hasan Mushrif and a former Gokul chairman, lost the OBC reserved seat to Shashikant Khot, a long-time Satej Patil associate. News18 Marathi described him leaving the counting centre alone, visibly upset.
- Arun Dongle and Vishwas Patil, both former chairmen running with the Mahayuti panel, also lost.
The irony is that in 2021, Satej Patil and Hasan Mushrif won Gokul together. Their joint panel took 17 of 21 seats and ended the Mahadik group's hold of more than 30 years (The Indian Express). This time Mushrif was on the Mahayuti side, which had ministers, two MPs and, by Sarkarnama's count, 10 MLAs behind its panel. Patil, a Congress MLA, beat that whole bloc.
Why a dairy board election is a big deal
Gokul isn't a small co-op. By its own figures it:
- runs a 17 lakh litres a day dairy plant, a satellite dairy at Udgaon and a packing unit in Navi Mumbai;
- handled 65.40 crore litres of milk in 2025-26, with a provisional turnover of ₹4,185 crore;
- says it pays back 76–82% of every sales rupee to milk producers as price and services.
The board decides how that money moves: the procurement price paid to its member producers, cattle-feed rates and spending. That's why, as Sarkarnama puts it, in Kolhapur "whoever holds Gokul holds the district". Patil's campaign was built on the charge that the Mahayuti planned to privatise Gokul and run it "from Mumbai", after the chief minister stepped into the alliance's seat-sharing (Sarkarnama). With a majority of directors, his panel now picks the next chairman.
What to watch next
- Chairman's election: the new board elects the chairman. No date or name had been reported by about 6:05 PM IST.
- Milk procurement prices: any change to the rate paid to producers is the first test of the new board. We'll add it here when it's announced.
- Mahayuti's response: a 14–11 defeat in Hasan Mushrif's home district, despite ministers, MPs and MLAs campaigning, will be read as a warning for the alliance's grip on Kolhapur's cooperatives.
