Chennai metro map latest: Poonamallee–Vadapalani Yellow Line stations, ₹10–40 fares and train timings
Chennai Metro's first Phase 2 stretch, the 15-km Poonamallee Bypass–Vadapalani section of the Yellow Line, opened on 11 October with 11 stations. Trains run 7 AM to 9 PM from Monday, every 10 minutes at peak. Here are the stations in order, every fare from CMRL's fare table, parking, and where to change for the Green Line.
TL;DRThe short version
- Open now: the Poonamallee Bypass–Vadapalani stretch of Chennai Metro Phase 2 (Corridor 4, Yellow Line) has 11 elevated stations over about 15 km. Service runs 4–9 PM today and 7 AM–9 PM daily from 12 Oct, with the last train at 9 PM from both ends (CMRL).
- Fares ₹10–40: Poonamallee Bypass to Vadapalani is ₹40 on a paper QR ticket; NCMC card and digital QR tickets are 20% cheaper (₹32). Trains come every 10 min 8–11 AM and 5–8 PM on Monday–Saturday and every 15 min otherwise (CMRL).
- Change at Vadapalani for the existing Green Line. Six stations between Porur Junction and Vadapalani are not open yet, so trains run non-stop on that section (The Hindu).

Short answer: the latest addition to the Chennai metro map is the Yellow Line (Corridor 4) from Poonamallee Bypass to Vadapalani, about 15 km with 11 stations. It opened on 11 October 2026. Trains run 4–9 PM today and 7 AM–9 PM every day from 12 October, and fares are ₹10 to ₹40. Everything below comes from Chennai Metro Rail Limited's (CMRL) own press release, fare table, timetable and parking list unless another source is named.

The 11 stations, in order
CMRL lists the stations from west to east as follows (P.R. 66/2026):
| # | Station | Parking (CMRL, from 11 Oct) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Poonamallee Bypass (terminal) | Two-wheeler and car |
| 2 | Poonamallee Bus Stand | None |
| 3 | Poonamallee Government Hospital | Two-wheeler only |
| 4 | Karayanchavadi | Two-wheeler only |
| 5 | Kumananchavadi | Two-wheeler only |
| 6 | Kattupakkam | Two-wheeler and car |
| 7 | Iyyappanthangal | Two-wheeler only |
| 8 | Thelliyaragaram | Two-wheeler and car |
| 9 | Porur Bypass | None |
| 10 | Porur Junction | Two-wheeler only |
| 11 | Vadapalani (terminal, Green Line interchange) | Two-wheeler only (Phase 1 station) |
Between Porur Junction and Vadapalani, six stations are still being built: Alapakkam, Karambakkam, Valasaravakkam, Alwarthirunagar, Saligramam Warehouse and Saligramam. The Hindu reported that trains stop at every station from Poonamallee to Porur and then run straight to Vadapalani until those open, which may take a few more months.
Our line map in the tool is a simplified drawing of this order. It isn't an official CMRL map.
Train timings and frequency
According to CMRL's press release of 10 October:
- Sunday 11 October: trains from 4 PM to 9 PM in both directions.
- From Monday 12 October: 7 AM to 9 PM every day. The last train leaves at 9 PM from both Poonamallee Bypass and Vadapalani.
- Monday to Saturday: every 10 minutes from 8 to 11 AM and 5 to 8 PM, and every 15 minutes from 7 to 8 AM, 11 AM to 5 PM and 8 to 9 PM.
- Sundays and holidays: every 15 minutes all day, with no peak service.
The Yellow Line closes earlier than the Blue and Green lines, which run until about 11 PM according to the same CMRL timetable. If you're changing at Vadapalani late in the evening, the 9 PM cut-off is the one that matters.
CMRL hasn't published station-to-station run times. Reports before the opening (LiveChennai, MagicBricks) put the full trip at about 30 minutes, but treat that as an estimate.
Fares: ₹10 to ₹40
CMRL's fare table gives the price for every pair of stations. Some common trips on a paper QR ticket bought at the counter:
| Trip | Paper QR | Card or digital QR (20% off) |
|---|---|---|
| Poonamallee Bypass → Poonamallee Bus Stand | ₹10 | ₹8 |
| Poonamallee Bypass → Kattupakkam | ₹20 | ₹16 |
| Poonamallee Bypass → Porur Junction | ₹30 | ₹24 |
| Porur Junction → Vadapalani | ₹30 | ₹24 |
| Iyyappanthangal → Vadapalani | ₹30 | ₹24 |
| Poonamallee Bypass → Vadapalani | ₹40 | ₹32 |
- 20% discount: CMRL gives 20% off on the NCMC Singara Chennai card and on digital QR tickets (WhatsApp +91 83000 86000, Paytm, PhonePe and the CMRL app's stored-value pass). Paper QR tickets bought at the counter don't get it (CMRL P.R. 64/2026).
- Going beyond Vadapalani: CMRL told The Hindu that fares stay unchanged and that a trip combining Phase 1 and Phase 2 is capped at ₹50, for example Poonamallee to Wimco Nagar or to Chennai Airport.

Changing to the Green Line at Vadapalani
Vadapalani is already a station on Phase 1's Green Line, which runs Chennai Central–St. Thomas Mount via CMBT and Alandur. DT Next reports that Yellow Line passengers can change there for the rest of the network.
In August, The Hindu reported that the new Phase 2 station's own entrance on Arcot Road wasn't finished. Until it opens, passengers would use a skywalk and the Phase 1 station's entrance on Jawaharlal Nehru Salai, which means a longer walk. We couldn't confirm on opening day whether the Arcot Road entrance is ready.
Parking and feeder buses
- Parking: CMRL's list from 11 October shows car parking only at Poonamallee Bypass, Kattupakkam and Thelliyaragaram. Most other stations have two-wheeler parking only, and Poonamallee Bus Stand and Porur Bypass have none. CMRL's tariff sheet (in force since 1 Feb 2025) lists the rates for Phase 2 stations including Poonamallee Bypass and Kattupakkam: for a two-wheeler, ₹10 for up to 6 hours if you travel with a CMRL or NCMC card, or ₹25 if you don't.
- Buses: MTC says buses already run past all 11 stations, and bus stops near each station have been marked. Poonamallee Bus Terminus has the most bus trips at 5,155. MTC and CMRL will decide on extra feeder routes and dedicated stops based on passenger feedback (DT Next, quoting MTC MD V.P. Jayaseelan).
What opened, and what's next
PM Narendra Modi and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay flagged off the line on 11 October and rode it together (ET). According to PIB, the stretch cost about ₹4,900 crore, includes a 3.7-km double-decker structure, and has signalling designed to support driverless operation. It's the first operational part of Corridor 4, which DT Next says will eventually run from Poonamallee Bypass to Lighthouse.
Next to watch are the six unfinished stations between Porur and Vadapalani, which will change both the stop pattern and the run time. We'll update this guide and the tool when CMRL announces them.
