Airtel voice only plans: ₹185, ₹203 and ₹206 packs with no data, and which one to pick
Airtel is the first telco to launch voice-and-SMS-only prepaid packs under TRAI's new rule, three days before the 21 October deadline. All three give unlimited calls and 300 SMS with no bundled data; only the validity differs. Here's what you get, the cost per day, and what Jio and Vi must do next.
TL;DRThe short version
- Three packs, no data: Airtel has launched ₹185 (28 days), ₹203 (30 days) and ₹206 (calendar month) prepaid plans. Each gives unlimited local, STD and roaming calls and 300 SMS, plus free HelloTunes, and no bundled mobile data.
- Why now: TRAI's Telecom Consumer Protection (Thirteenth Amendment) Regulations, notified on 21 September 2026, make every operator offer cheaper voice-and-SMS-only vouchers from around 21 October. Airtel is the first to comply; Jio and Vi are covered by the same rule.
- Who should switch: feature-phone users, second SIMs kept only for calls and OTPs, and people who are almost always on Wi-Fi. If you use mobile data even occasionally, a data plan is still the safer pick.
- See the packs on Airtel's prepaid recharge page (or search the price in the Airtel Thanks app) before you recharge: airtel.in/recharge-onlineNavbharat Times reports the packs show up under the 'Truly Unlimited' section of the app, or by searching the price.

Short answer: Airtel now sells three prepaid packs with unlimited calls and 300 SMS but no mobile data: ₹185 for 28 days, ₹203 for 30 days and ₹206 for a calendar month. The benefits are identical; you are only choosing how long the pack lasts. Airtel confirmed the launch to India Today and Hindustan Times on 18 October, three days before TRAI's deadline for all operators to offer such plans.
The three Airtel voice only plans, side by side
| Plan | Validity | Calls | SMS | Data | Cost per day* |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ₹185 | 28 days | Unlimited local, STD, roaming | 300 | None | about ₹6.61 |
| ₹203 | 30 days | Unlimited local, STD, roaming | 300 | None | about ₹6.77 |
| ₹206 | Calendar month | Unlimited local, STD, roaming | 300 | None | ₹6.65–₹7.36 (31 to 28-day months) |
*Our arithmetic: plan price divided by days of validity.
All three include free HelloTunes, according to India Today. Navbharat Times reports the packs are listed in the app's "Truly Unlimited" section, or can be found by searching the price.
Which one should you pick?
- Cheapest per day: ₹185. But 28-day validity means about 13 recharges a year instead of 12.
- Same recharge date every month: ₹206. It renews on the same date each month, so it's the easiest to remember, and in a 31-day month it works out cheaper per day than ₹203.
- A fixed 30 days: ₹203, if you'd rather count days than dates.
- Don't switch if you use UPI, WhatsApp, maps or OTP apps on mobile data. These packs have no data at all, so you'd need Wi-Fi or a separate data add-on.
Why Airtel launched them now
On 21 September 2026, TRAI notified the Telecom Consumer Protection (Thirteenth Amendment) Regulations. TRAI said operators had been offering only a few voice-and-SMS-only vouchers, mostly with long validity, which left low-income users without affordable short-term options. The amendment requires operators to offer voice-and-SMS-only vouchers, with an "appropriate reduction in tariff", for:
- every validity of 30 days or less that they offer on a voice, SMS and data plan;
- a pack that renews on the same date every month (or the last day of a shorter month); and
- at least one longer-validity voice-and-SMS pack.
The rule comes into force 30 days after Gazette publication, which reports put at around 21 October. Separately, a TRAI direction dated 1 October told operators to display TRAI-mandated packs clearly and prominently on their apps and websites, after complaints that such vouchers were buried in menus.
CNBC TV18 notes Airtel's launch currently covers 28-day, 30-day and calendar-month validity, and that a longer-validity voice-only pack could come later.
What about Jio and Vi?
Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea are bound by the same regulation and deadline. Airtel was the first to announce new short-validity packs under it; we'll update this story when Jio and Vi publish theirs.
01
Myth TRAI has fixed the price of voice-only plans.
Fact No. The regulation asks for an 'appropriate reduction in tariff' compared with data plans of the same validity. Operators set the actual prices.
02
Myth The ₹203 and ₹206 plans are the same.
Fact Same benefits, different validity. ₹203 runs a fixed 30 days from recharge; ₹206 renews on the same date every month (or the last day of a shorter month).
03
Myth These packs work for UPI and WhatsApp.
Fact They carry no mobile data. Apps that need the internet will only work on Wi-Fi or with a separate data pack.
