10 day Italy tour package: what three real tours cost, what they leave out, and when DIY wins
UK searches for a 10 day Italy tour package spiked this month. I compared three real 10-day tours you can book today, line by line, with the 2026 entry rules and the do-it-yourself route that travel creators recommend.
TL;DRThe short version
- Real prices (checked 19 Oct 2026, ~6:20 PM IST, UK sites): Trafalgar's coach tour Great Italian Cities from £1,914 (Feb 2027 deal; £2,395 in Nov 2026); Intrepid's small-group Italy Experience from £3,375 (2027 dates); Intrepid's 18–35s Essential Italy from £1,395. None of the three prices includes flights to Italy.
- What you're really paying for: meals (from 3 breakfasts to 9 breakfasts plus dinners), hotel standard, group size (12 to 50 people) and who carries your bags. Museum entries in Florence and Venice are mostly extra on the small-group tours.
- Entry rules: UK and US passport holders need no visa, but the EU's biometric Entry/Exit System has applied since 2025. ETIAS is not running yet, so don't pay any site for it. Indian passport holders need a Schengen visa (€90 for adults).
- Whichever way you go, book Colosseum tickets only on the official site, before anything else sells out: colosseo.itTour operators include some entries; check your package's inclusions before buying a duplicate ticket.

Three real 10-day tours, compared line by line
| Tour | Price (19 Oct 2026) | Route | Group | What's included | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|

What the headline price doesn't cover
- Flights. None of the three include them. Intrepid's page says flights are booked separately.
- Entries on the small-group trips. Intrepid's itinerary lists the optional costs itself: Uffizi €29, Doge's Palace €35, Vatican Museums €25, Colosseum, Forum and Palatine €18, Leaning Tower of Pisa €27, and a gondola ride at €113. Trafalgar includes fast-track Vatican entry and more guided sightseeing in its price.
- Meals. Three breakfasts on Essential Italy against nine breakfasts and three dinners on the other two is a real gap. Over ten days in Italy, that's a big part of the bill.
- Single rooms. Both operators charge a single supplement if you don't want to share.
The 2026–27 rules every Italy trip has to deal with
- UK and US travellers: no visa for stays up to 90 days in any 180. The EU's Entry/Exit System now registers your fingerprints and photo at the border instead of stamping your passport, so allow extra time at passport control on your first entry.
- ETIAS isn't live. The EU's official ETIAS site says the system is not in operation, no applications are being collected, and the start date will be announced several months ahead. Any site taking money for an ETIAS today is not official.
- Indian passport holders: you need a Schengen short-stay visa. The fee is €90 for adults and €45 for children aged 6 to under 12, per the European Commission. Apply to Italy's visa centre if Italy is your main destination, and leave weeks, not days, before you need to book non-refundable tours.
- Venice: the access fee for day-trippers ran on 60 set days from 3 April to 26 July 2026, at €5 booked early or €10 otherwise. The city says the trial has ended and no payment or exemption is needed for now. Whether it returns in 2027 is up to the city council, so check before a spring or summer trip.
- Cinque Terre's Via dell'Amore: Intrepid's itinerary notes the reopened clifftop path must be booked up to 72 hours ahead on viadellamore.info and costs €10.
The DIY version: what creators would do with 10 days
These are the creators' own plans and advice, credited to them. The links go to their full videos.
Follow Me Away, whose host says they've been visiting Italy for over a decade, splits ten days as three in Rome, three in Florence, two in the Cinque Terre and two in Venice. The logistics: the high-speed train from Rome to Florence takes about an hour and a half, Florence to La Spezia about two and a half hours, and the Cinque Terre to Venice four and a half to five hours, so take an early train. The video suggests not trying all five Cinque Terre villages in one day, and if you only have time for one Venetian island, picking Burano over Murano.
Our Big Italian Adventure keeps it to the "big three" of Rome, Florence and Venice so the trip doesn't turn into a blur. Their ground rules: fly into Rome and out of Venice so you don't double back, use high-speed trains because the stations are in the city centres, book the sights you'd hate to miss as soon as you have dates, and travel with a carry-on, because you'll be hauling bags over cobblestones and Venice's bridges. They also flag a new €2 fee to walk down to the Trevi Fountain, and say that the Colosseum's underground needs a specific ticket that a general entry doesn't cover.
The Tour Guy, an Italy tour company, calls April to early June and September to October the best season. It says Rome in July can be hotter than California or Florida, and that November to March brings lower prices but shorter days and the wettest weather in Rome, Florence and Venice. Its other tips: book an open-jaw flight, book summer hotels about six months ahead, and draw cash from bank-owned ATMs rather than airport or Euronet machines.
Package or DIY: who should book what
| You are... | Book | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A first-timer who hates logistics | Trafalgar-style coach tour | Hotels, transfers, luggage, Vatican entry and most breakfasts are handled |
| A couple or solo traveller who likes walking and trains | Intrepid's small-group trip, or DIY | 12 people, local leader, real food experiences; DIY is cheaper if you'll plan |
| 18 to 35 on a budget | Essential Italy, or DIY with hostels | £1,395 is cheap for ten days, but check how few meals are included |
| Comfortable booking trains and timed tickets | DIY on the Rome, Florence, Venice route | You choose the pace; book the big sights on official sites first |
| Travelling in July or August | Either, but plan for heat | Intrepid itself warns that summer temperatures can top 40°C |
If you go DIY: book entries on the official sites first, then add guided tours where a guide makes the difference. GetYourGuide lists Rome tours and tickets, day trips from Florence to Siena, San Gimignano and Pisa, Venice tours and Cinque Terre tours. Check whether a "skip-the-line" ticket is just the official ticket with a markup.

My take
I haven't taken any of these three tours. This is my reading of the operators' published terms and the creators above, so weigh it that way.
For a first trip with parents or anyone who'd rather not handle trains and luggage, I'd book the Trafalgar-style coach tour, and I'd pick a November or February departure. At £1,914 to £2,395 with 4-star hotels, nine breakfasts, three dinners and Vatican entry included, it's the best value of the three on paper, and winter means smaller crowds at the sights it rushes you through.
For couples who like to walk, I'd go DIY on the Rome, Florence, Venice route rather than pay £3,375. Intrepid's Italy Experience is a lovely trip, but most of its value is a well-planned train route and a few food experiences, which you can rebuild yourself with an open-jaw flight, advance train tickets and one or two guided tours where history matters, like the Colosseum and the Forum.
I'd skip any 10-day itinerary that tries to add the Amalfi Coast on top of the big three. Every creator above warns about trying to see too much, and Follow Me Away's own route already spends a full day on trains between the Cinque Terre and Venice.
And whatever you choose, don't pay anyone for an ETIAS. It doesn't exist yet.
How much does a 10 day Italy tour package cost?
On 19 Oct 2026, ten-day tours on the operators' UK websites started at £1,395 for Intrepid's 18 to 35s Essential Italy (simple hotels and two hostel nights, 3 breakfasts), £1,914 for Trafalgar's Great Italian Cities coach tour on a February 2027 departure (£2,395 in November 2026), and £3,375 for Intrepid's small-group Italy Experience on 2027 dates. None included international flights.
Is a 10 day Italy tour package worth it?
It's worth it if you want hotels, transfers, luggage and the big museum bookings handled, especially on a first trip or in peak season. If you're comfortable booking trains and timed tickets yourself, a do-it-yourself trip on the same Rome, Florence and Venice route usually gives you more free time for the money.
Do I need a visa for a 10 day trip to Italy?
UK and US citizens don't need a visa for short stays of up to 90 days in 180, but they go through the EU's biometric Entry/Exit System at the border. ETIAS is not in operation yet. Indian passport holders need a Schengen short-stay visa, which costs €90 for adults.
Do I have to pay the Venice access fee?
Not right now. The City of Venice charged €5 or €10 on 60 set days between 3 April and 26 July 2026. The trial ended on 26 July 2026, and the city says no payment or exemption request is needed until new rules are approved.
What is the best 10 day Italy itinerary?
Most first-timers split ten days between Rome, Florence and Venice, sometimes adding two nights in the Cinque Terre. Flying into Rome and out of Venice, an 'open-jaw' ticket, saves a day of backtracking.
