0.5 gm gold coin price today: ₹8,029 to ₹8,730, why it costs more per gram, and what it fetches when you sell
Searches for the 0.5 gm gold coin broke out today, 18 days before Dhanteras. We priced the same half-gram of 24K gold at Mia by Tanishq, MMTC-PAMP and on Amazon. The cheapest costs 6.8% over the gold and GST, the most expensive 16.2%. Here's where that premium goes, the traps in the search results, what you'd get back on resale, and my verdict.
TL;DRThe short version
- Price (checked ~5:45–5:55 PM IST, 19 Oct): a 0.5 gm 24K gold coin costs ₹8,029 at Mia by Tanishq, ₹8,443–₹8,829 for branded coins on Amazon (Joyalukkas, Malabar, Bangalore Refinery, Kundan, MMTC-PAMP) and ₹8,650 on MMTC-PAMP's own price list. The gold in it, plus 3% GST, is worth about ₹7,516 at IBJA's 19 Oct evening rate.
- Small coins cost more per gram: MMTC-PAMP's list prices 0.5 g at ₹17,300 a gram, against ₹16,590 for its 1 g coin and ₹16,407 for a 10 g bar. Two 0.5 g coins cost ₹710 more than one 1 g coin. Mia charges the same 5% making charge whatever the size, which is why its half-gram is the cheapest we found.
- Selling it back loses money at first: sold the same day at 3% below the rate, a 0.5 g coin fetches about ₹7,078. That's ₹951 less than the Mia coin cost, and ₹1,572 less than MMTC-PAMP's list price. Gold has to rise about 13% (Mia) or 22% (MMTC-PAMP) before you break even.
- Check any coin's premium with the calculator below, then compare live 0.5 gm prices on Amazon before you pay: amazon.in search: 0.5 gm gold coinGold prices change through the day. Check the weight (0.5 g), purity (24K 999 or 999.9), seller and return policy on the listing. The MMTC-PAMP coin is marked non-returnable.

Short answer: if you want a half-gram gold coin for Dhanteras, the best-value one we found today is Mia by Tanishq's 0.5 gm Lotus coin at ₹8,029. That's 6.8% over the gold and GST. On Amazon, branded 0.5 g coins from Joyalukkas, Malabar and Bangalore Refinery cost ₹8,443–₹8,547, 12–14% over. MMTC-PAMP has the strongest purity and buyback promise, but its half-gram is the priciest per gram at ₹8,650–₹8,730. If you're buying gold to invest, don't buy a 0.5 g coin at all. Buy a 1 g or bigger coin, or a gold ETF.
Prices were checked on Mia by Tanishq, Amazon.in (Mumbai pin code) and MMTC-PAMP's published price list between about 5:45 and 5:55 PM IST on 19 October 2026. Gold prices move through the day. Amazon links on this page are affiliate links (disclosed at the bottom); the Mia and MMTC-PAMP links are plain links. We didn't buy or assay these coins.
0.5 gm gold coin price today, seller by seller
The yardstick is IBJA's 999 rate, the benchmark the RBI uses to price Sovereign Gold Bonds. At ₹1,45,944 per 10 g (19 Oct evening), half a gram of 24K gold is worth ₹7,297, or ₹7,516 with 3% GST. Anything above ₹7,516 is the "premium": making charge, minting, assay, packaging and the seller's margin.
| 0.5 g coin (24K) | Where | Price (19 Oct, ~5:45–5:55 PM IST) | Per gram | Premium over gold + GST |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mia by Tanishq Lotus (9999) | Mia by Tanishq | ₹8,029 | ₹16,058 | +6.8% |
| Joyalukkas Flower 0.5 g bar (999) | Amazon | ₹8,443 | ₹16,886 | +12.3% |
| Malabar Gold & Diamonds (999) | Amazon | ₹8,499 | ₹16,998 | +13.1% |
| Bangalore Refinery (999) | Amazon | ₹8,547 | ₹17,094 | +13.7% |
| MMTC-PAMP Lotus (999.9) | MMTC-PAMP price list | ₹8,650 | ₹17,300 | +15.1% |
| MMTC-PAMP Lotus (999.9), sold by MMTC-PAMP | Amazon | ₹8,730 | ₹17,460 | +16.2% |
| Kundan (999.9) | Amazon | ₹8,829 | ₹17,658 | +17.5% |
Mia's page shows the full breakup, which is rare: ₹7,423.64 of gold (at its own rate of ₹14,847.27 a gram, about 1.7% above IBJA's), ₹371.18 making charge (exactly 5%) and ₹233.84 GST. The Amazon listings show only a final price and an inflated "MRP". Malabar's ₹10,774 MRP makes ₹8,499 look like 21% off, and Bangalore Refinery's ₹12,000 MRP turns ₹8,547 into "29% off". Ignore MRPs on gold. The only useful number is the premium over the day's rate.
Two more details from the listings. MMTC-PAMP's Amazon coin is ₹80 dearer than its own price list, which was printed at 9:57 AM. And the delivery dates Amazon showed for a Mumbai pin code ranged from 26 October to 4 November (Malabar's was 4 Nov). If you want the coin in hand for Dhanteras on 6 November, check the date for your pin code before you order.
Why the half-gram costs more per gram
MMTC-PAMP's own price list shows the ladder clearly. Every row is the same 999.9 gold, with taxes included:
| MMTC-PAMP coin or bar | Price (19 Oct) | Per gram | Premium over IBJA + GST |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.5 g Lotus coin | ₹8,650 | ₹17,300 | +15.1% |
| 1 g Lotus coin | ₹16,590 | ₹16,590 | +10.4% |
| 5 g Lotus coin | ₹82,150 | ₹16,430 | +9.3% |
| 10 g Lotus bar | ₹1,64,070 | ₹16,407 | +9.1% |
| 100 g Lotus bar | ₹16,08,730 | ₹16,087 | +7.0% |
Two 0.5 g coins cost ₹17,300. One 1 g coin costs ₹16,590. If you were going to buy two half-grams for two family members, that's ₹710 more for the same gram of gold. Gold Talk with Swapnil calls buying the smallest weight the most common gold-coin mistake, for this reason. He also points out the exception: Tanishq and Mia charge the same 5% on a 0.5 g coin as on 1 g. Mia's breakup today confirms that.
Check any coin's premium
Enter the price a jeweller, app or listing quotes you and today's 24K rate per gram, before GST (IBJA's evening rate is filled in). The calculator shows the premium, the price per gram, what the coin would fetch if sold back at a 3% deduction, and how far gold has to rise before you break even.
Four traps in the "0.5 gm gold coin" search results
The Amazon search for "0.5 gm gold coin" mixes in products that aren't what most people typing it want:
- 22K coins sitting among the 24K ones. A 22K (916) 0.5 g Lakshmi coin was ₹8,071 and a 22K "fine gold" 0.5 g coin ₹7,880. At today's rate, 22K gold in a half-gram is worth about ₹6,892 with GST, so those are 14–17% premiums on less pure gold. For ₹42 less than the 22K Lakshmi coin, Mia's 24K coin gives you more gold. Read "24K 999" or "999.9" in the title, not just "gold coin".
- Smaller weights on the same page. A 0.25 g 24K coin was ₹4,778, which is ₹19,112 a gram, or 27% over the gold. A sponsored 0.2 g 22K "bar/coin" was ₹3,679, about 33% over. A listing that says 0.05 g (a tenth of the weight) was ₹4,999. Going by the weight stated on that listing, that's about 6.6 times its gold value. Whatever the reason, the weight in the listing is what you get.
- Foil coins. A "500 mg gold foil coin" was ₹8,573. That's real gold, but in a thin printed foil rather than a minted coin, and it costs more than Malabar's or Joyalukkas's minted half-gram.
- No returns. Amazon marks the MMTC-PAMP coin non-returnable. You can get a refund or replacement only for a damaged, defective or wrong item, within 5 days of delivery. Check the return policy on any gold listing, and pick carefully, because a change of mind isn't covered.
On the other side, Gold Talk with Swapnil's warning applies: if a coin is offered below the gold value plus GST, treat it as a red flag, not a deal. The calculator above flags that case.
What a 0.5 g coin fetches when you sell it
This is the part most "price today" pages skip. At today's IBJA rate, half a gram of 24K gold is worth ₹7,297 before GST. GST isn't refunded when you sell. At a 3% deduction, a buyer pays about ₹7,078.
| Bought at | Sold back today (3% deduction) | Loss | Gold must rise by |
|---|---|---|---|
| ₹8,029 (Mia) | ₹7,078 | ₹951 (11.8%) | ~13% |
| ₹8,499 (Malabar on Amazon) | ₹7,078 | ₹1,421 (16.7%) | ~20% |
| ₹8,650 (MMTC-PAMP list) | ₹7,078 | ₹1,572 (18.2%) | ~22% |
| ₹8,293 (MMTC-PAMP on Amazon after the ₹436.50 SBI offer) | ₹7,078 | ₹1,215 (14.7%) | ~17% |
The buyback terms differ by brand:
- MMTC-PAMP: its price list says its gold buyback rate applies only at MMTC-PAMP retail outlets, and you must bring the original invoice and untampered packaging. Gold Talk with Swapnil says MMTC-PAMP pays its full listed buyback rate on coins kept sealed in their card. Opened coins are treated like any other brand's and take a small deduction. Metal Unboxed adds a catch: the buyback rate itself sits below the market. On the day he asked, it was about ₹12,100 a gram against a market rate of about ₹12,500. He also says only some MMTC-PAMP stores do buybacks, so call first.
- Tanishq and Mia: both creators report a flat 3% deduction on Tanishq's gold rate. Metal Unboxed says the store didn't insist on sealed packaging.
- Malabar: Gold Talk with Swapnil reports a 2% deduction on its own coins. He warns that taking one brand's coin to another can cost far more. In his example, MMTC-PAMP could deduct 6–8% on a coin from another brand.
These buyback figures are the creators' reports, not published policies we could check. Ask the store before you rely on them, and keep the invoice either way.
What the creators found
- Gold Talk with Swapnil (5 gold-coin mistakes, Hindi). He puts MMTC-PAMP's premium at 9–12%, Tanishq's at about 5% and Malabar's at about 4%. He says you can negotiate the making charge in a store. His fifth mistake is buying the smallest weight: people go for the lower sticker price of a half-gram and overpay per gram, when a 1 g coin would have cost them less for the gold. (His rupee estimate in the video is higher than today's gap. On MMTC-PAMP's list the gap is ₹710 a gram, but the point holds.) In a second video he says he paid about 9% over the gold for his 1 g MMTC-PAMP bar, and explains the sealed-card condition for buyback.
- Metal Unboxed (MMTC-PAMP vs Tanishq 1 g, Hindi). He bought both online and weighed them. His MMTC-PAMP bar came in at or above its stated weight, which MMTC-PAMP guarantees. His Tanishq coin was slightly under, about 0.02 g on 1 g, which he calls normal tolerance and worth roughly ₹250. His view: MMTC-PAMP's premium pays for trust, finish and the buyback promise. Unless you get MMTC-PAMP close to the spot price through a discount, Tanishq works out cheaper for him. He brings MMTC-PAMP's premium down with Amazon sale card offers or partner jewellers' offline prices, which he found lower for bigger weights.
- Stacking Barz bought a 0.5 g Muthoot coin on a quick-commerce app at Dhanteras last year and got it in about 10 minutes. He says he paid ₹9,989 and hoped a card would give him 10% cashback. Quick delivery is convenient, but check the premium before you pay. Quick-commerce apps price gold coins the same way as everyone else, off the day's rate plus a markup.
Bank and card offers
On Amazon, the MMTC-PAMP 0.5 g listing showed up to ₹436.50 off with SBI credit and debit cards. That's 5% of ₹8,730, and it takes the coin to about ₹8,293, under MMTC-PAMP's own list price. The Malabar, Bangalore Refinery and Kundan listings showed "10% on select bank cards". The card and the cap appear only at checkout. Metal Unboxed's tip for MMTC-PAMP coins is to wait for these card offers instead of paying list price. Check which of your cards gives the best deal on gold before you pay.
If it's an investment, not a gift
A half-gram coin is the costliest way to own gold by the gram. If you're buying for returns rather than ritual, compare these:
- A bigger coin or bar. On MMTC-PAMP's list, 10 g costs ₹16,407 a gram against ₹17,300 for 0.5 g.
- Gold ETFs or electronic gold receipts. SEBI regulates these. They carry no making charge and you can sell them on the exchange.
- "Digital gold" on apps. On 8 November 2025, SEBI warned that these products are neither securities nor regulated commodity derivatives. SEBI's investor protections don't apply to them.

Before you pay
- Read weight and purity in the title: 0.5 g, 24K 999 or 999.9. Not 0.05 g, not 22K 916, not "foil" unless you want foil.
- Work out the premium against the day's rate plus 3% GST (calculator above). For a half-gram, under 8% is good, 12–14% is normal for branded coins online, and above 15% means you're paying for a brand.
- Buy from the brand or its own seller. On Amazon, the MMTC-PAMP coin above is sold by MMTC-PAMP India itself.
- Keep the invoice and the sealed card. Buyback depends on both, especially for MMTC-PAMP.
- Check delivery before 6 November if it's for Dhanteras. Mia offers a pre-book with delivery on 6 or 7 November.
- Don't look for a HUID on a coin. Mandatory BIS hallmarking covers jewellery, not bullion coins.
My take
If you're buying one 0.5 gm gold coin this Dhanteras as a shagun or a gift, I'd buy Mia by Tanishq's 0.5 gm Lotus coin at ₹8,029. It's 24K 9999, it shows a transparent 5% making charge, it's the lowest premium I found, and Tanishq's reported 3% buyback is simple. If you'd rather order on Amazon, Malabar's ₹8,499 or Joyalukkas's ₹8,443 half-gram is the sensible branded pick. MMTC-PAMP's coin is the one to choose if purity guarantees and sealed-card buyback matter more to you than about ₹600. Buy it on Amazon only when an SBI-type card offer brings it near ₹8,300.
Buy a 0.5 g coin if: it's a gift, a puja purchase or a child's first gold, and the budget is under ₹10,000.
Skip it if: you're investing. Two half-grams cost ₹710 more than one 1 g coin, and a half-gram has to gain 13–22% before you're back to even. Buy 1 g or more, or a gold ETF. Also skip any "0.5 gm" listing that is 22K, foil, 0.05 g or priced below the gold value.
What I'd do with ₹16,000–₹17,000: one 1 g coin rather than two 0.5 g coins, unless they're going to two different people.
I haven't bought or tested these coins. This verdict is built on the sellers' live prices on 19 October, MMTC-PAMP's published price list, IBJA's rate and the creators credited above.
Frequently asked questions
What is the price of a 0.5 gm gold coin today?
Between about 5:45 and 5:55 PM IST on 19 October 2026, a 0.5 gm 24K gold coin was ₹8,029 at Mia by Tanishq, ₹8,443 (Joyalukkas bar) to ₹8,829 (Kundan) for branded coins on Amazon, ₹8,730 for MMTC-PAMP's coin on Amazon and ₹8,650 on MMTC-PAMP's own price list. At IBJA's 19 October evening rate of ₹1,45,944 per 10 g, the gold in a 0.5 g coin is worth ₹7,297, or ₹7,516 with 3% GST.
Is a 0.5 gram gold coin a good investment?
Not on its own. You pay roughly 7–18% over the gold and GST for a half-gram coin, and sold back the same day at a 3% deduction it fetches about ₹7,078, so gold has to rise roughly 13–22% before you break even. As a Dhanteras gift or a ritual purchase it makes sense; as an investment, a bigger coin, a gold ETF or an electronic gold receipt costs less per gram.
Why is a 0.5 gm gold coin more expensive per gram than a 1 gm coin?
Minting, assay, packaging and the seller's margin cost roughly the same for a small coin as a big one, so they weigh more on a small coin. On MMTC-PAMP's 19 October price list, 0.5 g works out to ₹17,300 a gram against ₹16,590 for 1 g and ₹16,407 for a 10 g bar. Mia by Tanishq is an exception: it charges a flat 5% making charge, so its half-gram cost ₹16,058 a gram.
Can I sell a 0.5 gm gold coin back?
Yes. MMTC-PAMP's price list says its buyback rate applies only at MMTC-PAMP retail outlets, with the original invoice and untampered packaging. Gold Talk with Swapnil and Metal Unboxed both report that Tanishq buys coins back at 3% below its gold rate. Keep the invoice and the sealed card. You don't get the 3% GST back when you sell.
Do gold coins need a BIS hallmark and HUID?
No. BIS mandatory hallmarking with a 6-digit HUID covers gold jewellery and artefacts. Gold coins and bars of 995 or 999 fineness can be hallmarked voluntarily by BIS-licensed refineries and mints. For a coin, check the refiner's sealed assay card, the stated purity and weight, and the invoice.
