Power bank flight checker: can I fly with it?
Type the mAh printed on your power bank (or its Wh rating) and see its watt-hour rating and what the rules say: hand baggage, airline approval or not allowed at all. Built after a power bank fire on IndiGo's Delhi–Chennai flight on 11 October 2026.
Check with your airline before you fly. The limits here are from IndiGo's dangerous goods table (PDF on goindigo.in, April 2026), which follows IATA's rules and notes BCAS's two-spare limit, and DGCA's November 2025 advisory circular. Other airlines and countries can be stricter, and airport security has the final say. This tool does arithmetic only.

02 The limits
Power bank limits at a glance
| Rating | Typical mAh at 3.7 V | Hand baggage | Checked baggage | How many |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Up to 100 Wh | Up to about 27,000 mAh | Yes | No | 2 power banks per person |
| Over 100 Wh, up to 160 Wh | About 27,000–43,000 mAh | Only with airline approval | No | Up to 2, with approval |
| Over 160 Wh | Above about 43,000 mAh | No | No | None |
- On board in India: don't use a power bank or charge it during the flight, including from the seat's power outlet, and don't put it in the overhead bin (DGCA Dangerous Goods Advisory Circular 01/2025, copy of the circular).
- IndiGo: its table says power banks must stay within sight, not in overhead bins, must not be recharged on board or used to charge another device, and must be protected against short circuits. NDTV reports IndiGo's baggage page allows 100–160 Wh spares only for portable medical devices, with approval at check-in.
- Formula: Wh = mAh × V ÷ 1,000. A 20,000 mAh, 3.7 V power bank is 74 Wh.
