Other charges
- Registration + RC smart card: ₹800 (₹600 + ₹200) under Central Motor Vehicles Rules, Rule 81. Waived for battery-electric cars.
- Third-party insurance (3 years, mandatory for new cars): ₹7,695 up to 1,000 cc, ₹12,555 for 1,000–1,500 cc and ₹29,023 above 1,500 cc. For EVs: ₹6,541 up to 30 kW, ₹10,672 for 30–65 kW and ₹24,670 above 65 kW. All include 18% GST, per the 2022 third-party premium rules (GSR 394(E)).
- TCS: 1% of the price for cars above ₹10 lakh (Income-tax Act s.206C(1F)). You can claim it back in your tax return.
- Typical estimates, not fixed: HSRP number plate ₹1,000, personal-accident cover ₹885 a year, FASTag ₹500, and own-damage insurance at about 2% of the ex-showroom price for year one. Own-damage premiums vary widely by insurer, so get real quotes.
- Not included: dealer "handling" charges, extended warranty, accessories, hypothecation fees if you take a loan, and municipal or parking charges.
