FC Goa are out of the AFC Challenge League. They lost their final Group C game 1-2 to Al-Qadsia (Qadsia SC) at the Mohammed Al-Hamad Stadium in Hawally, Kuwait, on Friday 23 October 2026. Hamza Khaba scored twice for the home side, and Chiki's equaliser was Goa's only goal. Goa finished third on three points, so they won't play in the quarter-finals. Their next game is in the ISL: FC Goa vs Sporting Club Delhi at Fatorda, listed for Wednesday 28 October 2026 at 7:30 PM IST.
Below you'll find the result and scorers, how the final table was decided, how Goa ended up in Asia's third-tier competition, and the ISL fixtures coming up.

How the match went
Goa went to Kuwait needing a win against the strongest team in the group, which was also the home side. Qadsia scored first through Hamza Khaba in the 10th minute. Chiki equalised in the 21st minute, and it was 1-1 at half-time, so Goa were still in it. Four minutes into the second half, Khaba scored again. Goa had about 40 minutes to find two more goals and couldn't get even one.
They did have chances, according to Khel Now's match report. Malsawmsanga KC shot over the bar and captain Sandesh Jhingan headed wide from a corner. At the other end, Qadsia's Ayoub Lakhdar hit the post in the 80th minute. In Khel Now's player ratings, Chiki gets the praise, while goalkeeper Lara Sharma and Udanta Singh are criticised.
The defeat fits the pattern of the whole group. Goa competed for long spells and then lost the key moments. In the opener against Regar-TadAZ they were winning until the 85th minute. In Kuwait they were level at the break and then gave away a goal almost as soon as the second half started.
Why Al-Qadsia only needed a draw
A lot of Indian fans asked this before kickoff. This was the table going into the last round of games:
| Team | Played | Points before Matchday 3 |
|---|---|---|
| Al-Qadsia (KUW) | 2 | 6 |
| FC Goa (IND) | 2 | 3 |
| Regar-TadAZ (TJK) | 2 | 3 |
| Fortis FC (BAN) | 2 | 0 |
Qadsia had a three-point lead with one game left, and that game was against Goa. With a win or a draw, Qadsia would finish on 9 or 7 points and nobody could catch them. Goa had to win. That would have put them level with Qadsia on 6 points, and it would also have given Goa the head-to-head result between the two sides. In the end, Fortis came from behind to beat Regar-TadAZ 3-1 in the other game that night. So a Goa win would have been enough to top the group.
What about the best runner-up spot?
Group winners reach the quarter-finals, along with one best second-placed team. That route was never realistic for Group C. Khel Now reports that the second-placed teams in Groups A and B have 6 points each, so no Group C runner-up could take that place. Even a draw in Kuwait, which would have given Goa 4 points, wouldn't have been enough. Winning was the only way through.
AFC Challenge League Group C: final table
| Pos | Team | P | W | D | L | Goals (F-A) | GD | Pts |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Qadsia SC (Kuwait) | 3 | 3 | 0 | 0 | 6-1 | +5 | 9 |
| 2 | Fortis FC (Bangladesh) | 3 | 1 | 0 | 2 | 4-6 | −2 | 3 |
| 3 | FC Goa (India) | 3 | 1 | 0 | 2 | 4-5 | −1 | 3 |
| 4 | Regar-TadAZ (Tajikistan) | 3 | 1 | 0 | 2 | 3-5 | −2 | 3 |
Table as published by Khel Now on 24 October 2026. Check the official order on the AFC Challenge League site.
Why are Fortis above Goa with a worse goal difference?
Three teams finished on three points. The likely answer is that the results between those three tied teams are counted before overall goal difference. Each of the three beat one of the others and lost to the other:
- Fortis: beat Regar-TadAZ 3-1 and lost 1-2 to Goa. Goals 4-3, goal difference +1 in these games.
- FC Goa: beat Fortis 2-1 and lost 1-2 to Regar-TadAZ. Goals 3-3, goal difference 0.
- Regar-TadAZ: beat Goa 2-1 and lost 1-3 to Fortis. Goals 3-4, goal difference −1.
Rank those three mini-league records and you get Fortis, then Goa, then Regar-TadAZ, which matches the published table. The order makes no difference to Goa, who were out either way. Khel Now's written explanation of the tiebreak doesn't quite match this working, so treat the official AFC standings as final.
Al-Qadsia won all three games and conceded just one goal, Chiki's equaliser.
FC Goa in Group C, match by match
17 October 2026: FC Goa 1-2 Regar-TadAZ
This was the game that cost Goa the most. Chiki scored in the 8th minute and Goa led for most of the match. Then Faridun Davlatov scored twice, in the 85th minute and in the 90th, and Regar won. Goa gave away three points in the final five minutes. If they had held on, they would have gone into the last matchday in a much stronger position.
20 October 2026: Fortis FC 1-2 FC Goa
Jorge Ortiz, one of the summer signings, scored in the 6th minute. Rafayel Tudu equalised for Fortis in the 78th minute. Chiki then scored the winner in the 85th minute. It was the club's first-ever win in the AFC Challenge League, and it set up the decider against Qadsia (AIFF).
23 October 2026: FC Goa 1-2 Al-Qadsia
Khaba put Qadsia ahead, Chiki equalised before half-time, and Khaba's second goal in the 49th minute knocked Goa out.
Chiki has been the one bright spot of Goa's October. He scored three of Goa's four goals in the group, one in each match, and he also scored in the ISL opener. Whatever Goa do in the ISL, he looks like their most reliable source of goals right now.
How did FC Goa end up in the AFC Challenge League?
Many fans are asking why Goa were in the third-tier competition and not the AFC Champions League Two (ACL Two). Here's how it happened:
- 7 December 2025, Super Cup win: Goa beat East Bengal in the AIFF Super Cup final at Fatorda. It finished 0-0 and Goa won 6-5 on penalties. It was the club's third Super Cup, a record for the competition, and it earned them a place in the ACL Two preliminary round.
- 12 August 2026, defeat to Arkadag: Goa lost 0-3 away to FK Arkadag of Turkmenistan in that one-off qualifier (Onmanorama). All three goals came in the second half. Clubs that lose at this stage drop into the AFC Challenge League.
- October 2026, Challenge League group stage: Goa were drawn into Group C, with every game played in Kuwait. They finished third and were eliminated.
East Bengal, the team Goa beat in that Super Cup final, are now India's only club in the ACL Two group stage. Goa's own ACL Two experience last season was difficult. They lost all six group games, including a 0-4 defeat to Al-Nassr.
What it means for Gouramangi Singh
This is the first proper test for FC Goa's new head coach. Gouramangi Singh, 40, a former India defender from Manipur, was appointed on 24 July 2026 (Khel Now). He had been an assistant coach at the club since July 2022 and was promoted to replace Manolo Márquez. Reports describe it as the first time Goa have used an all-Indian coaching staff full-time. As interim coach, he won the 2025 Bandodkar Memorial Trophy.
By 24 October 2026 we had found no post-match comments from him on the Qadsia game, and no reports questioning his position. In his first three months, Goa have gone out of Asia twice: first against Arkadag, then in this group. To be fair to him, he had little time to work with a squad that had changed a lot over the summer.
- Arrivals: Jorge Ortiz (one-year deal), Tomba Singh (three years), KC Malsawmsanga, Haodamlian Vaiphei, and Isak Ralte from Odisha FC. Captain Sandesh Jhingan signed a contract extension.
- Departures: Brison Fernandes, Dejan Dražić, Boris Singh, Sahil Tavora, Pol Moreno, Abdul Rabeeh and Ayush Chhetri.
The late collapse against Regar-TadAZ and the goal conceded straight after half-time against Qadsia both suggest the side still struggles to see games out. Fixing that is now Gouramangi's main job for the ISL. Goa finished 7th last season with 20 points from 13 games (5 wins, 5 draws, 3 losses), so getting into the top half is the obvious target.
FC Goa next match and upcoming ISL fixtures
Goa now have only the ISL to focus on. The 2026-27 league has 13 teams playing a double round-robin, and it runs until May 2027. Goa opened with a 1-1 home draw against Chennaiyin on 10 October 2026. Irfan Yadwad scored for the visitors in the 64th minute and Chiki equalised with a header in the 75th minute after a VAR check (Devdiscourse).

FC Goa vs Sporting Club Delhi: what to know
Goa won the last meeting 1-0 on 26 February 2026 (ESPN). It will be their first league game since coming back from Kuwait, and only their second ISL match of the season after the 1-1 opener. We haven't found or checked an official ticket page for this match.
Fixtures to circle
- 5 December vs Mumbai City: Manolo Márquez comes back to Fatorda in charge of the opposition.
- 13 December vs Churchill Brothers: this would be the first Goan derby in the ISL. It depends on Churchill taking over Jamshedpur's licence, which still needs approval, so treat the date as provisional.
Kickoff times for some fixtures have differed between sources. Check the ISL match centre or FC Goa's official handles on matchday.
Where to watch FC Goa
ISL 2026-27 matches are on Sony Ten 2 / Ten 2 HD, and Khel Now reports there is also a free YouTube stream. The match against Sporting Club Delhi is listed for 7:30 PM IST.
The bottom line
Goa's Challenge League campaign was decided by narrow margins. They conceded twice in the last five minutes against Regar-TadAZ, and in Kuwait they let in Khaba's second goal four minutes after half-time. Only a win against Al-Qadsia would have taken them through, and they couldn't get one. Goa leave Asia's third-tier competition with three points.
For Indian football, the knock-on effect is that East Bengal are now the only Indian club still playing in Asia this season. For Goa, the season now comes down to the ISL, starting with Sporting Club Delhi, listed for 28 October 2026. For more trending stories, see the KyunTrend homepage.
